In evaluating law 8 though Tony Soprano we will examine his bold moves and ability to keep the initiative, as well as several other key points, through his interactions with Jimmy Altieri, Sal Bonpensiero, Junior Soprano, Ralph Cifaretto, Johnny Sac, Tony B, Vito, Coco and Butch.

You know what? Good call on that Tony pointing a gun at butchie scene. Depending on the LIKELY ending if the series, this may have been a turning point against tony. Butchie after realizing that tony is a mad animal, one that he personally detests-it makes sense why butchie May agree to a plan to finally kill Tony.

Now obviously, we DONT know because a)butchie wasn’t a main character not even a secondary antagonist like Phil or Johnny sacs. B) sopranos is mostly about to y’all and his inner circle’s perspectives. Why would we look at butchie, a lower ranked subordinate?
@saadishsnake
@saadishsnake Жыл бұрын
Hmm, can you call Tony a mad animal in that particular scene? Pretty sure even the non-criminally-inclined can understand Tony's fury and reaction as to why he did all that. With that said, Tony completely disrespected a made man, so I get what you're saying. In that world, Tony pointing the gun at Butchie was the excuse New York needed to get rid of him.

Johnny Sac as with many of these is the best example of this rule in action. Even when he was going to that pygmy thing in NJ he was clearly the most powerful man in the room and once he got power everyone was going to him. The downside to this is the fact that the Feds are no doubt watching him and following Tony so if everyone's coming to you, they will always know where you are. Considering you're a big-time Mobster, this is bad. By the way, this is another great rule that is applied to life and business. If you're the one dictating the terms, you have the power in the situation. There's an element of give and take and an artfulness to respectful declining, but always have a self-awareness, am I dictating the terms or is my opposite?

6:26 That was obvious on first watching. She wasn't exactly on Tony's 'must bang like a drum' list, but it was clear that he had affection for her and thought of her as a good-hearted person; what he said to Ralph at that time, was clearly in reference to her, albeit in a veiled manner so as to not be heard expressing affection toward her 👍👍👍👍

3:17 actually I think when some one takes a crap in front of some one in the show (like with Christopher and those two guys season 2) it means they are referencing prison culture because you don't have privacy their either, and they would be use to that behavior and not be shocked by it if they had been to prison
@alexmuenster2102
@alexmuenster2102 Жыл бұрын
Correct! Further: Taking a crap in front of another guy is a show of great vulnerability - I mean: That would be a *great* opportunity to "off" someone. So it also displays great *trust* on the part of the dumper vis-à-vis the "witness."

First of all I enjoyed this analysis. I just want to make a point about one thing and it's probably not directly related to this specific law that you're talking about, but I thought Tony's idea of making Junior a figurehead boss without letting Junior know he was a figurehead was a terrible idea. For one, the capos would have to kick up not only a percentage of their take to Junior but secretly to Tony too - and good luck selling that idea to the captains. And even if Tony forgo taking their 'tribute' (this has happened in real life - Genovese boss 'Chin' Gigante had stopped taking tribute from his own captains because he was making so much from his own rackets) it would create too many organizational problems to keep up this facade. Just like somewhat with Jackie Jr. - the concept may have been fine in theory, but the basic idea was horrible in reality.

6:21 the writers coming right out and confirming things about the series that were previously left up to interpretation really irks me although I guess The Sopranos is a unique case with how people are still discussing it in-depth to this day and they may have thought the intrigue was all but dried up.

Toney soprano shoulda sent a few guys over to pats farm to back Toney B and told Johnny S his location knowing that Phil would act erratic and go himself to torture Tony B as soon as he would have showed up he would have got lit up. Then NY woulda took a blow and their civil war woulda came to an end with little Carmine on top. And woulda avoided his own death 4years later. Tony S could have told John that he didn't know what happened. As there would been no witnesses he would have had to take him on his word. That somehow his cousin got the drop on Phil and the other guy who showed up. Tony not backing his cousin was unexcusable. Tony B was a man of action

"When you actually read the chapter" Uhhh, of what book? You mentioned it in passing but I had to go back twice to figure out what you were even talking about. Honestly need to work on your explanations and set up, 95% of viewers aren't going to know "law 8" and no one cares how it applies to the sopranos because you've given very little context around why it's significant in the first place. Why am I going to sit through a video about how this obsecure theory written by a random guy applies to a show I like?
