Power, Performance, and Area (PPA) Analysis

The current approaches to power modeling involves the use of Manuals and Spreadsheets which can provide Worst case value alone. Power Metrics for complex use-cases and concurrent operations require time-based exploration. These existing solutions cannot provide task or application specific power at each device level.
In this video, we make use of VisualSim Architect simulation platform to model power to evaluate different use cases on a multi media SoC with stringent requirements. The power modeling requires the architect to configure the PowerTable with power values for different states (Active, Standby, Idle, Wait etc.). We show how these values can be obtained from the datasheets provided by vendors and also from online articles and how they are mapped to the powerTable.The video also covers how the power can be modeled for Custom IPs.
The various analysis and statistics covered here highlights how the power, performance and Area trade-off analysis were done and how the obtained values were verified.
