What a fantastic engineering idea! I'm going to order a set for my awesome acoustic guitar... not for the tone change but because it's such a faster way to change string instead of the cumbersome old-school way. Thanks for posting this! :)

Thanks for that demo. You've convinced me to order black ones too.

hi. what's ur experience w/these? does it matter whether the guitar is bright or warm to begin with?

mjt11860 I have these on my Martin and they sound great but the sound difference is not the reason I like them. It makes string changing a lot easier.

BTW all you are hearing is a cheap $199 Canon camera Mic...what I used for the video. Done on purpose.....I knew I would get slammed for doctoring the sound.. Peace

I was asked about added mass of the power pins to the sound, they are really light,(the box they come in is heavier...) and since it changes the loading to top loading , the mass/weight doesn't deaden the sound too my ears at all.

You just made you lovely, mellow Martin sound like a bright Ovation, no thanks. I would however, use those on a cheapy guitar that sounded dull or muddy. They might be good for recording a jangly part then put back the ebony pins afterwards. Thanks for the demo!

No prob, it was only on the vid thru my Camera mic, In person it did sound better to me, but I agree, the soundtrack was only a mono camera canon camera mic.

The larger wave means it's louder, not wider frequency range. Forgive me, if I'm wrong.

I hear a buzzy sort of characteristic once the Power Pins are installed. It is possible that you are playing harder/with more force, causing the strings to buzz slightly.

Did the tone improvement last long? Only I've found on the rare occasion when I've re-used old strings that they sound brighter when I first put them back on, even with the same pins.

I'm kind of lazy changing my strings due to what I do for a living as a Tech, so I left them on for 3 months after... bad of me.. but they still had a good tone..

zepdude 3 months?? Is that it? I bought a martin d28 in 2007 change the strings once after getting it. Only changed 2nd set now in 2015 hahah.. Old strings sound great to me on good guitars.. Less string sound more guitar sound... 😎

zepdude ya the way it should be. Like good guitars strings mature aswell.. Unless they are moldy or rusty shouldnt be changed.. And ofcourse if snapped. But i think guitars should be valued for the used string tone..

Hi there, I have been using power pins for about six weeks. They are fantastic. A guitar repair tech recently warned some other players I know not to buy them as they could cause the bridge movement. Personally I have had no problems at all. Just wondering how your guitar is and whether you have noticed any kind of movement or loss of action since installation? Thanks.

With the power pins it seemed like you were over driving your microphone. A definite change for sure seemed louder.

only sound you are hearing is from a Canon Point and shoot camera on a tripod.. Not the Mic on the DAW.

Hi Zepdude- I did definitely notice a difference between "before" and "after", but I also noticed that the audio for both samples sounded very compressed. Does your camcorder mic have some sort of "auto leveling" i.e. compression feature? For my money I found the compression artifacts a little distracting and difficult to hear through.
@zepdude3867
@zepdude3867 9 жыл бұрын
Jon Gordon Hi Jon, good question. its a $199 canon I don't have it any more but I looked up the PDF and couldn't find any compression...or auto leveling.. But it very could of had that built in.. Thanx

dude in this video put on new strings for the "after" recording. They are visibly dull in the before and then shiny in the after.

Mark, You are 100% wrong... I have all the extra footage of the "SAME" strings being put on..... That was the point of the vid...I was wanting to see and "hear" the difference......so why would I change strings???

If only the recording wasn't one of the worst I've ever heard. You can hear a definite difference but is it better or worse? You'll never now from this recording!

Seriously? You literally recorded into a microphone and then didn't throw that raw audio into the video. Completely pointless for a tone demo..

My purpose was to "show the wav files difference" and "MY" opinion only on this product, did I say go buy some?.. sorry you didn't get the point... nothing on youtube to me sounds consistent and because of that someone like you would say "you compressed it or something similar". so I decide to "Not stir that pot"..I leave that to others...
