Quilts can be seen as powerful works of art that have held the hopes and dreams of Black families for generations. The narrative quilts in the Mazloomi family quilt collection tell intensely complex stories of Black oppression, pain, freedom and power. These unique quilts are markers of Black communities and legacy, and give viewers valuable insight into the Black presence in America. Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi will discuss the motivation and stories behind her forty years of advocacy and collecting African American quilts.
