I got into model kits because of minipla. I started with the super minipla Dino Megazord and now I’m building kits for Toy Story, Star Wars and Gundam. It’s been a fun hobby while in quarantine.

I was never able to get into model kits as a kid. The painting and gluing seemed kind of intimidating. I like that minipla doesn't really involve that, which makes it more fun for me. I remember when I had this one kit of Obi-Wan starfighter from Episode III, but I lost it. I actually didn't know they had Toy Story ones. I might check them out actually.

So here's a fun little fact about Minipla... the candy has a longer shelf life than the stickers do. See, I'm trying to assemble a Safari Gaoh kit, and apparently, five and a half years is long enough for the previously-sealed stickers' adhesive to completely fail, leaving all of the Resshas looking rather unfinished. Meanwhile, for shits and giggles, I decided to see if one of the candies was still edible... and it was.

I still prefer buying DX, I have a couple of miniplas but it's not as satisfying to combine like the DX. I dunno, I think I just like the clicking and secured sound when combing the DX that's missing from minipla. I can also store them in its box after playing with it. but I gotta give props to minipla for the poseability though.

I got your concern. In terms of articulation, Hasbro's gonna release the first DX-size megazord that can do both combination and action (Dino Fury combining zords). I'm really looking forward to see this toy line, after thousands of year. To me, each line has its own pros and cons, DX is solid, big and really detailed, while MP/SMP is actionable, but there're some problems as you said. Finally, the choice is yours. But don't forget the upcoming combining zords from Hasbro, which hopefully possibly replace both DX and MP/SMP at some point.
@JulioCoolioClassic3 жыл бұрын
I'm also really excited about those. I hope they do every zord from the show, but I'm still tempted to buy them anyways given how great they look.

My biggest problem with minipla is the durability (at least for the ones I got). I got all the ToQger mech’s minipla, and most of them broke at the joints within a couple of months with the worst example being Build Dai-Oh. I assembled Build Dai-Oh right before I went to bed; When I woke up, nearly every joint had broken and it had fallen apart (It didn’t even last 8 hours). When I got LuPat, I went for the DX line instead, and only got one break, which is my fault for being too rough with it. Also, if anyone finds this comment, how can I fix that break? Or how can I figure out how to fix that break? The spinning gimmick on the Xtrain broke, and I can’t get one of the screws out because it’s either stripped or not a screw.

The tools really make a difference in Minipla. I hated building Muteki Shogun. But after I got my tools, the Ryusoulger kits were a breeze. Sadly most people don’t mention the need for tools, which makes newcomers feel ripped off when building isn’t as easy as other claim it is.

some of the minipla are notorious for "cheat parts". parts that come from nowhere and have to be stored elsewhere in between transformations (or bandai just hates gridman?). this decreases the fun of transforming. but space is really a compelling argument. furthermore, DX versions, due to manufacturing back then and the occasional inclusion of electronic features, tend to get chunky/blocky.
@JulioCoolioClassic3 жыл бұрын
The"cheat" parts are a good point. Sometimes they confuse the transformation as they're not in the show. Though I think it's sort of like figuarts where certain poses require certain extensions. I don't really mind blocky DX mecha if they at least have an interesting gimmick. Like Dekaranger Robo is a bit blocky, but it has the sirens from the show. Though if a dx mecha doesn't have anything else apart from transformation, I'd just go for the minipla. I'll give credit to Hasbro for trying to add articulation as a bonus. Though they really need to sort out actually releasing every zord in a show and making the plastic durable.
@flaguser41963 жыл бұрын
@@JulioCoolioClassic to be fair, i think the cheat parts are also there for show accuracy of the transformed form (but not the transformation that got it there). voltron/golion's dismembered lions come to mind. i need to have strong nostalgia to tolerate big chunky mecha. such as dino megazord. superminipla allows me to enjoy other mecha that i wouldn't collect otherwise.

upon building minipla, you need to watch Gunpla building tutorial (nub removing, sanding, cementing, painting) now, DX or Minipla DX is literally design to be played with, you know, kids holding them, punching a giant rubber dino toy as an enemy monsters (cos neither hasbro or bandai is keen on selling enemies unlike Ultraman), also, gimmicks really makes kids go Woooooohw.... Miniplas... are like Gunpla, you build them and pose them, and display them, they are not designed to beat each others, you can only choose what they looked like before storing them into shelves, some people buy 2, for the individual machines and the combined robot all in all, if you only want to store the megazords on shelves, photo shoot them with backgrounds, or make a diorama like scene, go with minipla but if you want to play with your mega zords(there is no right age for playing, even if you are pass 20, you can still play with toys) then Go for the DX
