One tip of watching Sentai. Don't be weirded out by it. Embrace it. I see you're unamused by the weirdness of Kakuranger. Maybe because you expected something more logical maybe? Well the thing is this show was made for a japanese audience and they were amused and found it funny.

Jiraiya is played by Kane Kosugi, the son of Sho Kosugi. Sho Kosugi was relatively well-known for playing a ninja in a bunch of 80s movies in the US as well as the main bad guy in 2009's Ninja Assassin. Sho Kosugi also plays Gali(the Japanese Woverine guy) in Kakuranger. It's kinda crazy that Sho Kosugi basically being "the ninja guy" in the US showed up in a ninja themed sentai series in Japan

Just finished Kakuranger for the very first time. I had rewatched MMPR 1-3 and now Zyu, Dai, and Kakuranger. I gotta say of those three, Dairanger is probably my fav of the MMPR source Sentais, but Kaku was fun in its own weird way. Seemed to bounce between serious "If we fail the world will end, gotta find those scrolls!" epic-ness to straight up sillyness expected of a kids show featuring multicolored spandex wearing heroes fighting monsters with giant robots, and right back to the big epic story, like binging it I swear I got a bit of whiplash! xD But overall it was def enjoyable. I like Gashadokura much more over Rito, he was actually a threat (Rito who managed to friggin destroy the Thunderzords then proceeded to accomplish nothing more than bumble around with Goldar for the rest, such a waste... he could still have been comical but a threating one at least...) Same with Daimaou vs Master Vile. Vile appeared, talked tough for like 7 episodes, then bounced... at least Daimaou was an actual lead villain for 30 some episodes! But yeah, even with the same Zords fighting the same monsters, the stories with absolutely zero overlap (and even the Kakurangers suits not being used) made it a 100% different show, did not feel like Power Rangers and Kakuranger were the same at all. Like you said, pretty amazing the PR producers could take that footage and piece together a show from it at all using as little as they did... Aaaaannnddd... are we gonna mention the Narrator being a straight up pervert and NOT talk about the time he LITERALLY tried to get in Tsuruhime's tent (the female White Ranger) and kiss her in her sleep??!! Or later that same episode he also was voyering the female ninja yokai team while they were in their bathing suits at their pool?? (Well when I did MMPR 1-3 before the Sentai's, I didn't include Alien Rangers, so onto that and Zeo and then Ohranger!)

This show is so 90s in the best and 'worst' ways. Although some of the 90s ness of KakuRanger would go over almost everyone's heads unless they were hardcore otaku getting import stuff. This is also why the gushing over certain fashions and things in the original Sailor Moon anime would probably go over current kids heads because there is no context as to why teenage girls would gushing so hard for this or that cultural signifier.

Well they could've adapted it differently, like maybe make a mixed actor of Japanese and english be the main character. The show would start with him finding out that his father who left him and his mother when he was an infant sent him a letter. So MC would try to find out why his father would contact him after 17 years. In doing so he would meet the rest of the teams. Who are highly trained ninja descendants in japan. As the newbie he is very clumsy but is talented and doesn't fall behind the others. Thats what I think would be a good adaption. The comedy would still be there since of course its SABAN or maybe not since its Hasbro.

A lot of Super Sentai series are essentially reboots or remakes of older sentai - A lot of the ideas here in Kakuranger featured in Shuriken Sentai Ninninger which was adapted into Power Rangers Ninja Steel in the west.
