I thought this list was actually pretty good. Basically spot on imo given my lack of knowledge prior to the 91 Penguins. My first thought was that 2001 New Jersey had a great shot at being #1 (a big part of that not knowing much before the Penguins teams like I mentioned earlier). But the '84 Islanders who lost to Edmonton while going for their 5th Cup makes perfect sense. No argument from me. I also knew 2000 Dallas was gonna be high on this list. I personally would disagree with having 08 Pittsburgh over 09 Detroit. Detroit in 09 lost in 7 and had a 3-2 lead while Pittsburgh in 2008 lost in 6 and were down 3-1 and never had a real chance at winning that series.

This is a very great list. I actually had a discussion with a friend yesterday about the 1995 Red Wings. That was arguably the Wings second best team overall in their "modern dynasty (1994-2009)," behind just 1996. They were incredibly talented and trending upwards. It's funny you mention teams that went on runs that were "falling off," like the Canucks in 1994. It seemed like the Wings definitely fell off a little in 97 and 98, yet they won those two Cups. It's strange how your best teams aren't necessarily the ones that win championships (other quick examples: 2007 New England Patriots, 2016 Golden State Warriors, and 2016-17 Washington Capitals). Also, I have no problem with the 95 Wings being behind the 83 Oilers and 84 Isles. That's more than reasonable!

@@matthewdaley746 That seems to be very true in sports. I know Shannon has mentioned it in previous videos, but analysts started wondering whether the Islanders could win in the late 70s, and after the Oilers got upset by the Kings people wondered if they had the right chemistry. Look where those teams ended up. Detroit took a lot of heat for the upset loss to San Jose in 1994, getting swept in the Finals by the Devils in 1995, and then falling short against an extremely good Avalanche team in 1996. Those were the lessons needed to get Cups in 1997, 1998, and 2002 especially.

@@matthewdaley746 I was merely mixing up my use of language to avoid monotony, it was more of a cliche saying 'right chemistry.' Don't read into it too much, really. Goaltending is still a big piece to that puzzle for great teams. As a Wings fan, I could also speculate on if they would've won another Cup or two if their goaltending was better. That especially cost them in 94, 99, and 06, in my opinion.

Only spot of contention for me is '09 Red Wings > '08 Penguins. The only real difference between the '08 Red Wings (who beat the '08 Penguins pretty handily even though it ultimately went 6 games) and the '09 Red Wings was the addition of Hossa. That isn't a downgrade and even if it were it's merely a negligible subtraction by addition. The way I look at it is this: If the 2009 SCFs were played 10 times the Red Wings win 5 and the Penguins win 5. If the 2008 SCFs were played 10 times the Red Wings win 8 and the Penguins win 2. '08 Wings > '09 Penguins = '09 Red Wings > '08 Penguins

@@KevinJL That moment is misleading, because Grant Fuhr lost three other Playoff Games, two of which were by three goals each. In 1982, he was solely responsible for the MOM, no one else to blame. In 1984, the Oilers actually won their first Cup without him, which really hurts. In 1989, he had a 3-1 lead, before coughing it all up, his idiot coach didn't pull him for, some unrevealed reason. In 1990, the Oilers won their last Cup, also, without him, and, Bill Ranford, his replacement, would win the Conn Smythe Trophy. @@midimusicforever Not, in, 2001, Scott Stevens broke the face of Shane Willis, and, later joked about it. Lamoriello, and, Robinson, did the very same thing that they had always done when he stepped out of line, NOTHING. Their collective insolence was rewarded when Scott Niedermayer way injured later in the Playoffs. Scott Stevens, being a hypocritical bully, after all, suddenly, was incensed that a player was hurt. He should have saved his rage for Robinson, who left his good players out too long. They managed to beat an overachieving Penguins team in Five Games, but, the damage was done. The Hockey Gods were angry, and, the Devils would taste their wrath. Oh, and, just who did they beat in the Final, exactly, a Red Wings team that was still two years away from shedding the choker label, a Stars team that was absolutely running on fumes, and, a Mighty Ducks team that had an overachieving goaltender, and, that's about it, meanwhile, they lost the Final to an Avs team without its best scorer, and, a Kings team not, much better than the Mighty Ducks team they beat.
