We continue to assemble a powerful power supply with voltage regulation in the range from 0 to 24 V and current of 10 A. This third part already tells and shows how to choose the right transistor in order to guarantee an output current of 10 A. The Darlington transistor has a high ratio current amplification, therefore it is a key element of any powerful power supply, both with voltage regulation, and with a fixed value of the latter.
When the current flows through the transistor due to the presence of internal resistance, it is heated quite strongly, therefore it requires installation on the radiator. An approximate calculation of the radiator has shown that the radiator with the available parameters is not sufficient to remove heat, so it must be cooled with a cooler. The 12 V cooler should be connected in parallel with the smoothing capacitor through the integrated voltage regulator LM7812.
To measure and display the value of voltage and current, you can install a ready-made Chinese voltmeter-ammeter.
Any power supply, especially made by own hands, in our time must contain a USB connector for powering various gadgets. Since the standard voltage of the USB connector is 5 V, in order to reduce it, it will be effective to use a DC-DC down converter.
Thus, our power supply has a voltage regulation function and a USB connector for powering other electronic devices.
