I think the most impressive thing is that the scooter is making 43hp from a friggin 150cc engine, that's 287hp per litre! Significantly more than any supercar or bike.

Come to southwest europe, poland to france to spain, thats not TOO rare here. Got the Aprilia RS's, Honda NSR, all kinds of Vespas, Simsons and so on. A good friend of mine has an NSU Mofa, originally literally a bicycle with a support engine, pumping about 2hp from 50ccm, now making about 20 from 70cc.

would of been interesting against a manual m3! The last gear change for that vespa makes it drop back abit. Probably hasnt got the torque to get it back up to rev range quick enough

That final gear shift is so short it stays right in the rev range never drops out in fact it only drops about 1k rpm shifting to 4th gear.its still near the redline. . It's just the aerodynamics and drag. Plus the vespa is already tach out at 97mph. So it's top speed is not much over 100mph. While the m3 will do 160 mph easily.

Respect to the vespa rider, considering the vespa has most of its weight in the rear, with 43 bhp keeping that front wheel on the ground needs some serious skill and control. I know this very well, as I owned a 200cc vespa in the 80's (my first ride). That thing had only 12 bhp and it still was a hassle to keep it planted on hard acceleration from a stop.

Ive a 2016 PX125 with all the emission crap off it, sip road 2 exhaust, reedspeed cdi, bigger carb and jetting, t5 flywheels and stator, it can pop the front wheel up easy.

Readspeed scooters has a 53bhp vespa and it's only a 125cc. It's ridiculously fast. Can't even keep the front wheel down. They're planning on a bigger carb with they a 38mm at the moment and nitrous 👀

It's more a case of aerodynamic drag. Bikes always struggle with this. It's why the scooter can keep up until around 70mph, at which point the car's superior drag coefficient allows it to pull ahead.

@@paulstevens9409 agreed my 600hp xfr will dust him from start, but as you say average car stands no chance. His biggest problem is the wheel barrow tyres, i have ridden many vespas, scooters and sports bikes, those little tyres are a nightmare they 'tramline' like mad, cause speed wobbles and are dodgy at best with spirited cornering. All that said he has created a mad scooter and i hope he has a lot of fun with it, hats off to the lad for what he has created. Reckon he could have a lot of fun by putting a pizza delivery box on it and surprising a lot of people with his fast food image!

I own a e90 320i and a Vespa Primavera...so my word is law (hahahahaaa...). I could write a book to comment this challenge. The Vespa is absolutely insane, very far from the stock one...and insanely funny. I can't even imagine going 97 mph with her 10" wheels. The stock Vespa 50 had 1.5 hp and max speed of 40 kmh (28 mph?). Obviously the stock Vespa 50 doesn't exist, none ever saw one. Ever. At least they make some 60/65 kmh, some get to 80 while been perfectly fine for daily use. I love my humble 320i, but my Vespa is a faith...43 yo and still perfectly running. Awesome challenge, very fun, thanks to you all!!!!

Vespa is a legend. 2 strokes engines are amazing. I have a Peugeot 103 with : Polini W 50cc engine, 19mm carburator, PVL Spark, Ninja G2 exhaust, kick ass machine too (13,7HP @13250 rpm) = 118 Km/h.

I worked in a scooter shop years ago a guy in there had a DRZ motocross engine in a Lammy and he said it pulled 80 mph in 3rd gear and he’d never used the rest of the box. It’s on here somewhere it’s black with a Suzuki DRZ 400 engine. Saw some other crazy builds CR 250 and YZ 250s in them 💨

What a cool experiment to test such different yet comparable HP/weight class. Thanks for the video. What surprises me is seeing your list of 0-60 and 1/4mi times. It makes me realize that watching this GAS burning lot drag race is like watching horse-drawn chariots race. My electric 4-door daily driver can beat everything on that list-and this has been the case for years. I said goodbye to my E36 and E46 M3s years ago for electric, and I'll never go back to GAS. Other important factors to consider: Aerodynamics, traction, gear ratios, and weight of rider/driver. The bike rider weighs nearly as much as his bike. Great video guys!

i came here expecting modest claims on the vespa. its pry close to 43 hp. i also expected it to only really hold its own till 60ish. wind resistance gets bad for small engines as speed goes up but it did good. ive always wanted to build one of these as modern parts can really make they fly and i love 2 strokes so i wouldnt be killing my scooter that i built anymore. i didnt take it out this year at all sadly and i missed it but my v8 toy made up for it somewhat. but its just not the same as slapping the hurt on someone with a piston that could fit on their key ring. in the v8 car they know its gonna hurt but they just wanna see it run.
