All of these tests are performed on all sizes of transformers, too. Even small ones you'd never notice in all sorts of appliances. Usually during design and test at the factory, of course. Despite advances in switching power supply technology and subsequent lower costs, there's still a place for the old transformer :)

Dear sri kumar mani, The dissipation factor is defined as the real part of the current divided by its imaginary part. Thus the tangent of the angle between the measured current and an ideal capacitive current is obtained. Therefore a capacitor with a low dissipation factor is mandatory in order to create a capacitive reference current. Best regards, Your OMICRON team

This video is GREAT! very informative. I wonder do you have a step by step video of the actual testing of a transformer? I'm an recently licensed Electrical Engineer but I do not have sufficient knowledge in Transformer testing. I want to start my career on this field. Thanks You.

Dear Ryan, thank you for your kind words, we am glad that you like the video. Unfortunately we do not yet have more step by step type videos on transformer testing. However, there is a lot of good literature. Electrical Field Tests for the Life Management of Transformers by Jill Duplessis might be a good starting point. Best regards, Your OMICRON team

Excuse me Sir, in withstand test we make a short between Three Phases and apply voltage on the short, that's in Star connection, can we apply voltage test just on Neutral? With my best regards
@omicronenergy Жыл бұрын
Dear Eng. Omar Eyad Aljorani, thanks a lot for your comment and interest in our videos. The short-circuit of the phases is required to avoid excitation of the core and to equalize the electric field across the insulation system. Excitation of the core could cause a load current. The test of the insulation system (capacity and DF/PF) is done by shorting the phases and measuring the main capacitance between HV and LV side. For more information about power transformer testing, please have a look at our website: www.omicronenergy.com/en/application/offline-testing/power-transformer/ Best regards, your OMICRON team

@@omicronenergy Many Thanks Sir for your reply, so in Star connection, in DC resistance test, we can apply dc voltage on Neutral, while in voltage withst test we can not apply A. C. High voltage just on Neutral, we should make a short between Three Phases and apply on the short, that causes, voltage will be induced between the beginning and end of each phase because there is no short wire between them. IS that explination clear, please
@omicronenergy Жыл бұрын
Dear Eng. Omar Eyad Aljorani, Yes, the phases are shorted so that all three phases and the neutral are on same potential. PTM shows a wiring diagram for the individual setup based on the name plate data.
