I think we don't fully understand the effects of EMF on the body. Or if we do and it bad the wireless industry is keeping it a secret. Almost every manufacturer has warnings about reducing rf exposure to cover there butts. See: it-takes-time.com/2015/06/25/cell-phone-manual-warnings/ Look online and you find kid science experiments if you sprout seed near a WiFi router less of the seeds germinate and they are small than seeds in the same conditions away from the router. The current RF safety standard only tests for heating of the skin.

Other items like wi-fi range in the amount they output but are usually kept at a distance. There are actually standards put out by the WHO. But I liken this to living under a power line.

The effects of EMF on a person's health is not clearly understood. It basically means we don't know if it's bad on health or not. Wi-Fi and mobile phones generate around 1watt (off the top of my head), or was it 1mw. However, to power a lightbult we are talking hundreds of watts. At the correct frequency, EMF can heat water, which is the fundamental principle of microwave ovens. At other frequencies, it just passes through us. Question is, are we absolutely sure our body have not absorbed any of it?

PCs are metal boxes which shield the internal components from electromagnetism. That's why I wouldn't worry too much about it giving off weird electric fields as well. Also most quality wires and so on are shielded. Remember when crappy speakers would start giving off weird noises when a nearby phone or cellphone would start ringing? That doesn't happen with better products due to shielding.

Do not be worried, it is the same kind of field as the wi-fi routers use. Simply because its a magnetic field, doesn't mean its a magnet. For example, light is an electromagnetic field. Electromagnetic waves are literally everywhere.

I doubt there will any plans for things for a long time. Switching over would require an entirely new infrastructure which no one wants to deal with. It's like hydrogen cars. We've invented them. They work great. But no one wants to start producing cars for an infrastructure that doesn't exist.

Let me shed some light on this whole process since this was my Senior Design project for Electrical Engineering. First of all, this is safe because the frequency used for this design operates at is on the very low end of the radio spectrum. Basically, this works on the EXACT same principal that modern power transformers work, which is two coils pass an oscillating magnetic field between eachother through a medium. Modern power transformers use a ferrite core (a big iron donut basically), and one coil is wrapped around one half, while the other coil is wrapped around the other half, using the iron to pass the magnetic field since iron conducts magnetism really well (what do you think magnets are made from?). WiTricity basically removes that iron core and flattens those coils, thus it becomes much less efficient but doesn't require any physical contact. To overcome the loss in efficiency, they design the first coil to oscillate the magnetic waves at a certain frequency and then tune the receiver end's components to oscillate most efficiently at that specific frequency. The more tightly tuned the receiver is to this frequency, the better it picks up that frequency but it's less able to pick up other frequencies, so you can effectively power only certain things if you want to. This is not "new", the MIT study was 8 years ago and they're just now starting to commercialize it. It will still be some time before this is practical because it's inefficient right now, and angle is still a major problem (turning a device perpendicular the transmitting coil basically cuts off its ability to receive power from the transmitter).

Imagine a mechanic garage where you never had to charge a drill or have cables running everywhere to trip on or get caught on literally everything. No cords to worry about running over, heaters plugged into a ground plate only where you did not need to burn fuel to heat it in the winter. This has so many commercial and industrial applications it isn't even funny. This would revolutionize everything we know now as well as increase safety for many businesses and workers as well lowering operating costs and helping drive inflation farther down. This needs to be heavily developed.

I wonder how strong that electromagnetic field has to be to actualy permeate an entire house strong enough to induce enough electricty into a device to power it. And also, it would induce electricity into everything that contains something resembling a coil. That might include stuff you don´t want any electricity in. And i think i don´t need to mention stuff like cardiac pacemakers. And maybe i´m a little paranoid here, but our nerval system works with electric signals too. A strong enough electromagnetic field theoreticaly can mess with the signal transmission in our nerves. And that can range from beeing a nuisance to killing you within a minute. All in all, i like my electrity to be contained within cables or accus. And just to preempt any know-it-alls, i know that those have a surrounding electromagnetic field too, but those are way weaker and only spread for something like a couple of centimeters to a meter.

Induction is also how Electric Guitars work. There is a magnet in the guitar pickups, and coils of wire. When the metal guitar strings vibrate within the magnet's magnetic field, it creates current which is then amplified and passed to a speaker.

I live this! I would use this for the basement where there is only one outlet which is occupied by the washer and dryer. It is also all the way on the other side of the room so I can't plug in anything to use in my craft studio (such as printer, diecut machine, computer, etc. also I would use it in the kitchen for appliances that are only in certain spots because that's the only place there's an outlet. It would be really great to not have to be chained to a certain wall or walls because that's the only place there's an outlet. 😄

if you know tesla and if you know about electronics than you know about high q coils and their nonlinear coupling, what all that means is in most transformers the turn ratio tells you what comes out on the secondary winding, with a high q coil there is as resonant coupling were the output may be much higher than the turn ratio and may couple at far greater distance than transformer an example would be radio and tv. you need that kind of coupling to get any kind of transmitted power to work with any kind of efficiency.

Was it 2005 or 2006 that MIT performed its first test right? Four or five years earlier I provided a 5th grade history teacher the idea for a wireless electricity transmitter. Because its already formed a magnetic field, the energy is already wasted regardless if you or your neighbor use it. This is actually a really inefficient way to use electricity. It's like making your home into one big, continuously running electromagnet. I can only imagine what this would do to nearby computers or hard drives.

Well, physics. You can focus the direction of the magnetic field or limited it using materials and techniques to bar/deflect electromagnetic waves, leaving it wide just for your home, or even for a single room. Or you can just deactivate it for an area and keep it active for another, exactly as an lamp that you turn off when you don't need to light the room.

Why does nobody talk about voltage protection and high amperages? Here's the thing: system A has a coils of 12000 and 500 turns to go from 120v to 5 volt. system B has coils of 36000 and 1500 turns with the same ratio, 120 to 5 volts. a system B smartphone charged with a system-A charger will receive 15 volts and will burn through. If your whole house will have the same voltage and your friend comes in... you guessed it. standardization is impossible because there are a lot of other devices also using coils for things like rfid transfer or other signals. And just springs inside a ballpoint will get electrified with a low voltage and high amperage, producing much heat and it will melt.

All that matters is what the wavelength of the radiation is. Light, radio waves, and gamma rays are all different kinds of electromagnetic radiation. Only radiation with shorter wavelength (more energy) than UV have the ability to ionize molecules needed to alter your DNA causing cancer. So no, you won't get any more cancer from that than being in a well-lit room with WiFi and TV. (the amount is none) Other ways to get higher risk of cancer is to be exposed to particle radiation, but that's a subject for another time...(that has everything to do with radioactivity)

Actually we are all supposed to have very simply made generators to power up homes with free renewable never ending energy in the form of a kind of "electricity" that heats up a lot less and is a lot safer for handling. I forgot what its called though. My friend makes them and is going to give them away soon. This is supposed to be free and available to everyone. Could have all kinds of applications... See the DNews episode on the taser drone... Or you could just use it for anything in your home that currently has a battery, remotes, phones, etc. As well as lights in tight spaces, security cameras, wireless speakers, and so on. I'm guessing this would open up even more opportunities; touch screens imbedded into just about anything, sensors for temperature, light, occupancy, etc.

The wireless receiver pads would be on a common negative (PME)? What's to stop conditions where you put yourself in the circuit? You'll be the in the + POS and metallic surfaces would be + POS themselves also, the trick is finding a - NEG somewhere to be in the circuit and I don't think it would be easy unless someone tempered with something. Even if you did, would the RCD trips kick in to save the life? Say the RCD's work as normal, would they have to be lower/faster for pets?

No it wouldn't. It's a magnetic field. There won't be sparks and it's probably way safer than regular cords. Tesla actually was successful in making one that could power huge areas, but the public was way behind Tesla and thought it'd kill them or wizardry or other silly stuff. That is great, but do we really want that? Tesla only test it in a very short time and power was "cheap" at that time. Today we learn that long term exposures to wireless power could disturb human (electricity) balance, especially in the most sensitive brain. Besides, by wireless powering the whole house, you must have lots of leakage means expensive energy wasted. Are you willing to afford that?

If I was able to obtain this for my home, I'd use it for mobile items like my iPod,laptop, phone etc... it's a pain when you're using a mobile device and it suddenly need to be charged, if it charged constantly or when it hit a certain energy point that would be really neat :)

What if some part of a person somehow matches the resonance frequency and said part gets fried by several dozen watts of power? Jewelry or electronics with inductor coils in them would seem to be at risk too. It's probably unlikely since those are usually very precisely matched coils they use, but having an electromagnetic field with enough energy to power a light bulb all around you somehow seems dangerous. I just can't help but think that there's going to be a case like with cell phones causing brain damage.

Only when it's not charging. The battery only didn't work right when it was unplugged, right? So, theoretically anyway, if this kind of system was implemented the laptop would NEVER be unplugged (technically) and the batter life wouldn't be an issue.

That's a limitation of the batteries mainly. If you're using coils instead of batteries, then it's no problem. Also, there's new batteries in the works that are self healing, the stuff that breaks down normally is in a substrate that holds it together so it maintains most of its efficiency even after it breaks down.

Nikola Tesla... in just a short time he invented so many things and got such a deep knowledge about electricity that still untill today it remains mysterious how he accomplished certain experiments. One of my favourite scientists ever. By the way Tesla was said to be capable of using the energy from the ionosphere to power his instruments or to use the ionosphere to redirect electric charges all over the globe if he wanted to. Wireless electricity transmission also came from him. For over 50 years no one knew how he did it. He was the master of electricity.

Wouldn't their be a lot of energy that is wasted since it would be be emitting from a single source even when it isn't used. Even if you used a switch to break the individual circuits from walls and lights, the source would have to stay on unless you wanted to go to your electrical closet every time you wanted to do something. I realize there is already radiation loss in wires as electricity is distributed today but, this is more like radiation flooding.

well considering almost everyone has a microwave, cell phone, internet and anything else that already emits some kind of air waves, yet we're still living longer than ever, I'd say you're probably paranoid... not that long periods of exposure to said thing is necessarily good for you.. just saying they're certainly not that bad or worth worrying about unless, you use a cell phone 10 hours a day, everyday.
