That really gives you an idea of how much force is needed to move those barges. Two big EMD's at full power. That is some serious strain on the wires. Nice video.

Sliding down the list of vids with your stuff in it and boyyy there's "Farm Girl and the Washing Machine Repairman." I was on the David T Sheehy to take photos and maybe get into some artworks, too, by invitation of David T Sheehy the CEO. Early 1979 in winter. Well, they are a big Jeffboat wringer washer company and boy howdy I was on long enough to need some clean pants and started a load near the back of the boat in the laundry room. Was in the middle of it with a washing machine I know nothing about and some scenery came by and out I went with cameras. 20 mins later I came back and a couple of crew were mopping the floor and the engineer's bedrom on the stern was open and mopping was going on in there, too. OMG I thought.. and they told me the washer overflowed and the engineer got up to go take a pee and stepped in water several inches deep and thought the boat was going down. These guys looked like a funeral so I'll tell you... that was my last boat trip. I don't care for Jeffboat at all and don't miss the trips OR the steaks.

Is it hard to steer the barge without assistance? I would assume there would be a great amount of stress on the connections to the tug.
@bradgt51305 жыл бұрын
Chris Landry that’s all situational. These barges and tugs where designed for this. Between its face wires and barge wires it’s pretty solid connections. This process he’s simply pivoting off the head and flank his stern into the current so the current will eventually start to take his head out and naturally start to straighten him up S/B. Then he’s gonna drive on it to start the underway motion.
