Do one for power Bi offline availability. if you will please. I was looking for a solution for site users who sometime lack internet in there sites. They have to take pictures using their mobile and fill in a form and submit. once they gets WiFi or internet connection it gets uploaded automatically. Can this be done using Power apps ?

was amazing, your solution inspired me to think of another one you have a field you want to be filled from a selected item from a drop-down menu here is what you do 1 create a dropdown button 2 let the field default value be the dropdown button selected value 3 put the dropdown button above the field to look like the field itself is a dropdown menu

I AM SHOCKED!! Not about you, Shane. Your videos are great and very helpful! When I started playing around with PowerApps and started watching your videos, some things were a little odd. I was constantly getting syntax errors and did not understand why. Today I found out. Microsoft, for reasons I cannot understand, decided that it was a good idea to use different characters within the formulas, depending on the used browser language!! So if your browser is set to English (strangely no language selection inside the PowerApps portal and ignoring the language set in the user account settings in Office 365) comma is used, so RGBA(255, 255, 255, 1) in German semicolon is used, so RGBA(255; 255; 255; 1) No wonder my formulas were not working! And due to my screen resolution, I didn’t see the little dot over the comma before today. But why?? I realize that this must come from Excel. Same thing there, BUT Excel is very very old and for compatibility reasons they never changed that, although using localized characters - and even more shockingly - function names, was never a good idea. Anyway, PowerApps is not Excel. So why continue a bad practice in a new tool?? Do you have any idea?

FYI - For using a SharePoint list instead of an excel table, I found that in the second dropdown, the data type also has to be Result (instead of Value). (It also then requires a value in each dropdown, auto-selecting the first available row instead of leaving it blank for the user to select an option. Not sure yet how to fix that issue, but I'm still learning.)

Hi Shane - your videos are awesome! There is so much that I learn not just from watching them, but also they way you explain and demonstrate the concepts. I had a really noob question - if Im an external consultant developing an app from a customer, which account should I use? I would not be part of the Office 365 list - so would they have to make a separate account for me which they are then forced not to close (even after I exit); or is there just another way. My request is for you to make a video from a developers perspective in terms of setting the various environments, security groups and policies and finally rolling out the app. I know you have covered a some of these concepts in separate videos - but an integrated video would be terrific! Thanks again for sharing your extensive information and knowledge. Much appreciated!

Hi Shayne, this will be very helpful when we map clients chart of accounts (or Product List) for example: Account Code/Name: 2000/000 - Motor Vehicles @ Cost Report Type: Balance Sheet (or Income Statement) Level 1: Assets (Liabilities ; Equity) Level 2: Non-Current Assets (Current Assets) Level 3: Fixed Assets And then after the account has been mapped it pulls through to a SQL Table that is imported in Power BI. Also after the account is mapped it gets removed from the dropdown in PowerApps. This is very handy for reporting purposes for things like mapping products in product category and - subcategories, or projects or employees in different groups. Would be great if you can do a video like that

I have one question, within your cascading dropdowns I notice that you only display 2 fields/columns to display. I have 3 columns that I need to filter by, I am having trouble with the 3rd dropdown, it only references the 2nd dropdown. I need the 3rd dropdown to filter from 1st and 2nd dropdowns: columns (1st DD = Program Type, 2nd DD = Expense Type, 3rd DD = Expense Description). I tried using the "And" function also "&", "&&" and neither of them worked properly. Please advise if I need 2 distinct functions or an If statement, I have tried them and didn't work either.

Shane, Great video, hoping you can help. So I have a pair of SP lists in the same site. I am trying to use the first list which has a list of our resource in 3 different roles (eg: PC, GPA, ISA). The basics of the table are Role, First, Last, Full Name and details about the resource. Second table is for projects and depending on the services aligned to it a PC, GPA and or ISA will be assigned. For each of the assignments I have a drop-down list which I want to have a filter to reduce the available options . The formulas I have tried include: - ShowColumns(Filter('ICI - Team',IsDCMGPA = "Yes"),"FullName") - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.) - Distinct(Filter('ICI - Team','ICI - Team'.Role=PC_Label.Text),'ICI - Team'.FullName) - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.) I have also tried a number of other formulas all of wihch have resulted in no results. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Diddo what everyone is saying about great videos. I'm just getting started & learning a lot. I followed your steps & have an excel sheet in OneDrive with 2 fields -- DDFilter & DDOptions. I need to create multiple criteria for multiple dropdowns. For example if DropDown1 = "Yes" then Filter the DDOptions field from the sheet to XYZ from the DDFilter field. If it says "No" then filter the DDOptions from the sheet to ABC on the DDFilter field. However, when trying to do your basic dropdown option as described in this video, it won't even recognize the fields from the data source. I type Filter(DDOptions but it doesn't recognize DDOptions as a field unless I add the table name DDList. to the front of it. I then have the same issue when entering the DDFilter field name in the logical test, but then it won't accept .Selected.Value. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong with this step? And is there a way to use a string (i.e. "Yes") in a filter? Thanks!
@ShanesCows5 жыл бұрын
Step 1 make sure you have added all of the Excel tables as data sources to the app. Step 2 you have something like follows Items = If(Dropdown1.Selected.Value = "Yes", XYZ.DDOptions, ABC.DDOptions) That isn't the exact code but the concept.

Thanks for this very useful video. When I Patch this to send the results to Sharepoint I get "The type of this argument 'AIsle' does not match the expected type 'Text'. Found type 'Error'." My source for the dropdown is in Excel and the whole table is formatted as text. The Patch command sends the results to a Sharepoint list and the type of that column is 'Single line of text'.
@jeffkasavan934 жыл бұрын
The solution: the Patch format had to be Aisle: AisleTRVDD.SelectedText.Value. Nothing else would work.

Great Video! I wonder if it is possible to make a cascading list while allowing manual text input into it and make them part of the list after.

Would take a lot of work but I think possible.

Fantastic tutorial Shane and very easy for a PowerApp newbie to follow. Out of interest, could a similar concept be used to connect to the term store to select Category / Product relationships etc? This way we could have a central reference rather than distributing it across multiple locations. Have subscribed and will be back.

Not sure. I have not used the term store with an app yet. 😕

@@ShanesCows As follow up, we couldn't get them working but have found that the Common Data store is a better solution as it can be used outside SharePoint.

Hello Shane, First of all thank you for all your videos! I got a question regarding the sort(distinct(sharepoint list data) function. It does work with my dropdown tool. But the data that I choose are not saved in the sharepoint list which is link to my powerapp. I don't know if I'm clear (hello from France) Thanks for your help

Hi Shane, I am learning Powerapps from your videos . Very helpful . Thank You,Much. I have a doudt from this video. Please tell me the use of Reload Icon when the excel which we use is having static data.We might not use it rt?
@ShanesCows4 жыл бұрын
The reload is only to refresh the data source. Typically you only need that for testing not the real app.

this great. have a question can you point me in the right direction. I am creating an app that has dropdown function with a date. how do i make a date picker of date that is on an excel document filter in a data table.
@ShanesCows4 жыл бұрын
Set the date column as the datasource for the dropdown I think is what you are looking for. Maybe include Distinct to avoid duplicates?

Great stuff. So, one thing I noticed is that once you selected a Department, The Job Title was automatically filled out with the first item of the list. In order for it to remain blank by default when you select the Department, would you need to include on the spreadsheet for each Department a line with just the Department and a blank Job Title? And of course, then using the same sorting trick you applied to the Department field so that the blank would always show first in the Job Title field when and department was picked....

Hi Shane, these videos of yours are absolutely fantastic, I find myself stumbling upon your channel very frequently as I learn how to properly use the PowerApps services. The cascading dropdown has been a nightmare for me for a while, and this video was simple and easy to follow, thank you for making it! I've tried to apply a similar method to comboboxes, with limited success. I expect to have a large number of entries in the first dropdown, and would like to be able to search through entries, comboboxes seem to be the way forward. Sadly, the second dropdown (which can be a normal dropdown) gets confused, giving me "squigglies" under the = symbol and .value. Any thoughts on what could be done to fix this? Again, your videos are amazing, thank you so much for making them.

Combo boxes put out multiple selections while the drop down only does one. Connecting the two may be difficult
@TheTailson6 жыл бұрын
Hi Shane, I actually did figure this out eventually after throwing reams of different combinations at it. I'd wanted to use combo boxes because the source it was reading from was going to have about 400 entries, very cumbersome for a dropdown! The combobox's search feature was nice. Basically, needed to be able to choose contacts according to the company I had selected. Eventually, I put this one in and it stopped giving errors. Works well when you restrict the first combobox to only one option. I don't think it will work if it were possible to choose multiple. Distinct(Filter('Company Contacts', DropDown_Companies.Selected.Title = Company), ContactName) It seems like the order of the arguments just needed changing a little bit, which is strange but it works? This works on normal dropdowns and other comboboxes.

This is a Great video I have a Sharepoint form for a list that is pulling information from a list with Cascading dropdowns but I cannot get this information to store back to a another list correctly. Basically want to select a company and then the person within the company and store that along with a Date into a new list. I have been looking at Patch but think I am missing something. Is Patch the correct thing to use?

Reset is used to set a control back to its default value. Refresh is to update your data connection.

I have a question about authentication to this backend data source where the dropdown data is coming from. You used OneDrive in your video which is fine locally but if I do this using a sharePoint list, I have to grant everyone with modify access to the list because PowerApps uses the User context when accessing that data. Is there a way to connect to a datasource using a 'Connect As' option so only my Connect As account has rights to the backend data? We've struggled with this and it's very annoying. Maybe I'm just a noob. Thanks! Great videos!

I still love an learn from your videos. I have used cascading drop downs may time with success! Now I have the challenge that I like to also distinct on a Yes/No column is that possible? Distinct(Filter(MicroInstruments;InstrumentCategory=ddInstCategory.SelectedText.Value);Title) - I like to only include title which has a No in their Discarded column (from the MicroInstrument SP list) Maybe I missed it in an other video, I have almost learned everyting from you videos, but can't find anything about this issue. Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Shane, I followed this video and got my dropdowns to work. I want to use the cascading dropdrowns to filter a table. I think my formula is okay, however, I am getting an "operation is invalid" errror. Here is my formula for my table: If( IsBlank(Dropdown1_2.Selected.Result), Filter( 'RCF Processing Detailed PM Table', FacilityID_SystemName = ComboBox2_3.Selected.Result ), !IsBlank(Dropdown1_2.Selected.Result), Filter( 'RCF Processing Detailed PM Table', FacilityID_SystemName = ComboBox2_3.Selected.Result, ReviewDate = Dropdown1_2.Selected.Result ) )

Hi Shane. I started watching your videos today. I am pretty pretty new at Power Apps. So, can you recommend a video where I can learn how to have a dropdown list coming from an excel like in this example, but this excel will fit just for the Company Name dropdown list? In the other side I have a Sharepoint list to be fulfilled with fields: "Company Name", "Date" and "Cash at Bank (K)". So I want to build a simple app with these three fields, but the first one with approach you explained very well here. So, users will choose in the dropdown, then Date and Cash and when hit the button, this values will be recorded in the SharePoint list. Is it possible? So, kind of combine two sources for one solution, in this case fill a Share Point list. Then I will import this list to Power BI and finish with a dashboard. Is there any restriction regarding to total number of lines to be imported to Power BI. Sorry for this long text and if you cannot reply, ok, thanks anyway. Cheers, Jimmy
