My father always talked about merc’s and Kefer and quick silver lower units, but never owned any , he had a 1949 Barber runabout with a OD Green army twin Johnson barge motor on the back of the 12 ft boat / and 2 different lower units . I loved your shop , thank you.

I re-built a 1960's Hydro in 1979. My dad used to race Class B Hydros and he found an old Class D that needed a LOT of restoration. I used to built model planes and boats (RC) and a 10.5" McDonald Hydro that needed love was my project one winter and I ran it the following summer with a 35HP Merc like those you see in this video. Henry Shakeshaft had the Guinness's book of record of 99MPH in Mighty Flighty before I re-built her. We sold it to pay for my 1st year of college

A lot of great information! There were portable outboard motors at least a decade before that Waterman, however.

Well you told me that you collected outboard motors Sandy. But I had no idea that your collection would be like a museum. That’s amazing.

My dad has a magazine that States the first outboard that was made by Evinrude which was a 1904 Submerged Electric out board.

Credit Charlie Strang, for developing the first in-line 6 , against Kiekhaefer's wishes and Charlie's mother, for the black color, to make it look smaller.

Didn't the great racing car designer and builder Harry Miller have something to do with the invention of the outboard motor ?

There are 3 things that I got rid off after I turned about 18 that I very much regret. 1. My Rupp roadster mini bike I sold for $ 35.00, 2. my sunfish sailboat, and 3. my 1959 Scott Atwater 3.5 HP outboard, i think I gave it away :(

Yeah, I know the feeling Buddy! I sold or basically gave away Soo many toy's and different things that are literally worth Soo much money today it's hard to believe!

Steve Briggs(Briggs and stratton engines) started OMC in the late 20's, Ole did not sell to OMC in the 10's like he mentioned.
