This Switch does not allow for VLAN/Subnet creation You need a router to create a Subnet/VLAN and assign an IP Address to that Subnet/VLAN All you can do with this Switch is assign a VLAN ID to its ports but you cannot configure VLANs as a whole I purchased this Switch and there was no option to create a VLAN

I really don’t know how you have come up with such a systematic way of explaining everything...with the graphic visual aids and all.. it’s like a meticulously crafted training video for troops going to war...probably better... it’s just ineffable! It is almost like you ARE a computer... Thank you for these immaculate sessions.

His animated videos are as SIMPLE as it gets (for dummies) .... If you don't understand this EASY interpretation, then you should look into something else. If i was to teach someone VLAN, i would do it IDENTICAL to this one because its really SIMPLE .. Unfortunately we have people that cannot think on this easy of a level ...

I work in entertainment, and we've had to begin learning the basics of networking to get our devices to talk correctly. It's funny because in our industry, we rely on broadcast a lot. sACN for example is a protocol where one device like a Lighting Console will broadcast packets of lighting data, so that any receivers wherever they are on the network can subscribe to that broadcast and get the lighting data they need. As many receivers as you want can listen to similar broadcast messages. Those can really clog a network since the broadcast is a continuous stream of data. The sACN protocol supports sending a maximum of 33 million Bytes of data each frame for DMX.

Great explanation! But what would be the practical difference (not theoretical) between implementing VLANS versus subnetting each department into its own network segment? Are there benefits for one or other option?
@disrael21013 жыл бұрын
What if you can't connect all the machines to the same switch??
@rohitsolutions3 жыл бұрын
VLAN works at layer 2 and VLAN segregation is done at switch level (like which switch port belongs to which VLAN). The network admin who manages routers and switch generally configure it. Other hand subnetting is IP address / netmask based segregation that works at layer 3. System admin can setup it. VLAN gives more control overall. One small advantage - a change in vlan can be non disruptive (if done correctly) on other hand change in IP/netmask/gateway need a netwoek restart. Once set Subnetmask create a physical boundary say 4 subnet of class 3 network ( 62 useable IPs x 4). If you find s need of 63rd IP you have to redesign whole thing while im vlan you had full pool of 254 IPs, you can easily configure one more port at switch for your desired VLAN.
@Chris9208092 жыл бұрын
Few reasons, but one of them being security. In this example, lets say one of the users from the accounting department wanted to become part of the HR department. They could just open up their network adapter settings and change their IP address to be part of the HR department and sniff traffic. With VLANS they are logically separated so they wouldn't be able to do that.
