I love the Psychosis Crawler in my Sheoldred Deck. It most of the time flys under the radar and the deck is so explosive that you can easily deal 10 or more with the crawler. Greed is of course in the deck as well and in my opinion Greed is a Must in Sheoldred Decks

Could you guys do a guide about designing budget manabases (or more generally, manabases at a variety of cost levels)? Even when not building a budget deck, I hate spending much on lands, and just hate going through every possible dual land and finding what the cheapest one is, and so on. Problem is, a guide like that is kind of timestamped, because the prices of lands can fluctuate so much, but it would be really appreciated.

Use cheap lands that don't come in tapped. They are all cheap after the reprint madness

Some are, like the painlands currently, but a lot of the time only half of a cycle is reprinted, so one half is expensive while the other is cheap, and sometimes the lands remain expensive even after reprints. There's also a lot of nuance around like, at what budget level and in what situations should I put in or leave out something like Evolving Wilds? I think the NN could do a pretty helpful guide around all of that.

@@matteobagni1235 some of them, yes. But even within a cycle there can be quite a bit of variation (eg, UW and UR duals are frequently more expensive than the others). Sometimes they'll reprint a *specific* land in a precon, making that one affordable, but the others remain expensive. There is a lot of inconsistency in land prices for reasons like this. Even then, $3/land can be quite a lot depending on how many duals you need for a deck and what your budget is. If I'm building a $50 deck, I can't really drop $27 on 9 lands. That all is the reason I think the nerds could make a really helpful guide about their recommendations for manabases at different budgets.

I love life insurance in any of my decks that have reliable life gain so I don't have to worry as much about dying to it, and I think it is very overlooked. I also have psychosis crawler in Nekusar so it pops off everytime I wheel. Love it

A personal favorite budget bomb is ria ivor. Its the first deck i wanted to build from the new set and it slaps. Even outside of toxic, it can produce token you can use for stuff like convoke, affinity, crew or tapping creatures as mana

Another budget overrun option I like is "Overwhelming Encounter". Pros: - vigilance in addition to trample (don't die on crack back) - ~50% chance to get a permanent boost with +1/+1 counters -.less green pips Con: - overrun does +3/+3 instead of +2/+2

Sevinne's Reclamation is Sun Titan on a Sorcery and that is pretty fantastic in a noncreature deck. I got it stuck under Arcane Bombardment once and that was BONKERS. It basically lets you ramp or replay the small creatures that are in a noncreature deck on every turn (plus all the noncreature synergies). Sevinne's Reclamation is in my first Commander deck and I have loved every time I have used it. Kardur Doomscourge is kinda fun, but I get annoyed when they use it. I almost always threaten my buddy that plays it with blowing up some of his lands so he can't cast him.

I would agree with Joe if your meta don't use counter magic that much (which applies to a lot of playgroups). Hitting tokens is a huge difference to a lot of decks, more so than the +1/+1 counter I think

LOL I love that you mentioned Eligeth because I recently added Serum Sovereign to the deck and it's ability basically becomes an Ancestral Recall with Eligeth out, tap an Island draw 3 cards instead of tap an Island draw 1 card scry 2 :P

I love kardur I've got a deck of him and it does gain so much life I've added in a greed and a bolas citadel. As pay offs just need to add some instants that bring kardur back to the field when he gets targeted.

-) Professor of Symbology: I love that 2/1 for 1W with "ETB: Learn". She is flexible with all Lesson spells but helps in filling the graveyard with reanimation targets. -) Viashino Heretic: a clunky artifact hater that deals damage equal to the mana value. Just give him lifelink and set up a combo :D -) Hateflayer + Elemental Mastery: Hateflayer does cost 5RR, but his 5/5 withering body is scary and the "2R, Untap: deals damage = to power" gives pseudo-vigilance, which is nice! The Elemental Mastery allows to "not" attack (the 1/1 tokes does attack) and set up the Hateflayer for splashing damage :D With Kirk inspector and Maskwood Nexus you'll have infinite mana! -) Nullmage Shepherd: a 2/4 elf for 3G with "Tap 4 untapped creatures: destroy an artifact or enchantment". Nice repeatable destruction :D

With greed, rather than as a mana sink or card engine, I use it as a response to tight situations. ITS INSTANT SPEED. In a hard grixis control deck, you can find an answer to a lethal situation in 5-7 cards. or, when someone tries to disenchant your greed, pop off 3 mana, and see if you get the counter spell, or the swerve. if you want mana sinks and card engines, use blue. but greed is the cheapest "drawing cards to save my ass" answer. everything else wants 2 mana, greed only wants 1, and your 2 life. I've used it in golgari to find a fog, or a disenchant, or my combo pieces, or the finisher to my deck. Anywhere time is a factor because you're in a bad (even losing) spot, greed is top notch. EVEN If you have =absolutely= lost on board, spend your last act seeing if you can come up with an answer. then spend your last 2 life seeing if the next card would have helped

Rhythm of the wild while more expensive price wise is much better then Fires of Yavimaya. Unless your running a token strat id rather have the choice of a +1 counter or haste. But yes for an extreme budget Fires is good.

I'm just gonna say this, one reason people really like Rhythm of the Wild is because it makes creature spells uncounterable, so even though the riot doesn't hit tokens but Fires lets your tokens have haste, Rhythm lets you cast out your token producing creatures without issues of countermagic fucking it up. As a Miirym player who casts out a shitton of big creatures really often, it's a giant pain in my ass when the blue player decides to fuck up me pumping out big creatures and token copies with them.

Rhythm is way better than Fires -except in token decks. In particular it's disgusting with persist creatures. It's a combo piece that also protects against counterspells.

budget bomb: goldnight commander. absolutely busted in nearly every white deck ever. you can use him in aristocrats to win with altar of dementia, you can use him in blink decks and all of a sudden everybody you control gets the power of GOD, you can use him in Human tribal, you can use him in Party decks, and god forbid you start making Tokens: at that point he's a diet craterhoof behemoth. You wouldn't THINK he's a threat but then all of a sudden every creature you care about is an 8/8 and you're shredding away some peoples existence.

I can't imagine a deck with U and G in the color identity and doesn't prioritize landfall that doesn't have better budget card draw options. Maybe a very heavy ramp deck that inadvertently creates lots of landfall triggers but isn't a landfall deck. But if tatyova is only drawing lands off your 1 land for turn there are better options

Metropolis angel will likely draw a card each turn, armorcraft judge can draw several cards, mentor of the meek is ok on a budget, rumor gatherer is good if you're making 2+ creatures on multiple turns in the turn order (usually tokens), primordial sage and soul of the harvest are basically budget versions of beast whisperer (which is only a few $ itself) and guardian project, sanctuary warden is card draw + a late game threat and welcoming vampire is good if approaching the $5 mark. Fathom mage is good if you're capable of putting lots of counters on it, and Falco is also card advantage. Add in shamanic revelation, camaraderie, or even collective unconscious if you're going wide. Inspiring call is also good if youre going wide with counters and need boardwipe protection Edit: if you've got lots of dorks then skullclamp will more than pull its weight at only $5

Why not bushwhack instead of khalni ambush? It basically does the same but for one mana

Bushwhack can't be a land unless you already have green mana available, and instant vs sorcery. Since you're using it for a land 90+% of the time let's primarily compare those modes. Bushwhack is basically a prismatic vista that requires G to activate instead of 1 life, Ambush is a tapped green source. Neither produces mana the turn they are played, bushwhack can fix for non green colors IF you have green available, Khalni can provide green if we are missing green but otherwise doesn't fix. Ambush also technically works even if it's your only land but don't keep 1 land hands. And 2 mana instant fight vs 1 mana sorcery fight is a bit of a tossup imo the instant is easier to time to avoid a blowout removal spell
