!!! READ THIS FIRST !!! Prime the system from the RETURN side. That way you fill the diesel pump as well and none of the ridiculous injector bleeding they do on this video. To do this remove the RED clip to the left of the arrow. Fit a primer bulb and suck until you get diesel out. Refit. Start car. Easy. You can suck manually if you have strong lungs. It’s slow but it works. Take care not to ingest diesel of course. You can see the fuel coming down the pipes, so I didn’t get a mouth full of diesel doing this. It started within a couple of turns doing it this way.

Really appreciate that you did it at the end , even with the wrong way , but don’t do this so often the hp pump can be damaged, just prime from the return pipe .

Instead of drawing up fuel, I filled the filter up before fitting using a piece of hose pipe and funnel. It took around 600ml of fuel,,

All you needed to do was attach the priming device to the fuel filter to fill it, on the return side. Much safer than cracking unions to the fuel rail/injectors

@@L663 Correct, I have 2.2l mondeo 2008 with the same engine and car not start because after change filter I have started and run for 20 sec after stop, I have bleaded filter from return line but car still not starting, I will try today to open injector nuts

Little hand nut on the top of the filter, unscrew it a bit, start the engine, close it again

Fully undoing the unions is not a good idea. Crack off whilst cranking , nip up up when fuel leaks out, also, when priming it with the pump. Immediately replace the return line, it would have started back flowing the second you removed the priming pump, also, I would have had the fuel filler cap off to prevent creating a vacuum.

The easiest way that I always do it is get a clean jar and when you take the old filter off, empty the fuel into the jar, then take your new filter and use the fuel from the jar and squirt it into the new filter until its full, I use a large syringe and a pipe, doesnt take long, then replace your new filter, and the pipes and away you go, saves a lot of time.

I have yet to be convinced that fuel filters need changing nor have I ever heard of one being blocked. Unless you're buying fuel from a man with a can in the jungle I reckon the filter will outlast any vehicle. I have both car and boat diesels. On this, I am disappointed with Landy for the system. My last Vulva diesel had a lovely built in prime pump and all was good. This is really old school. I was watching as much for running out of fuel as filter change and it is clear my mrs (gawd bless 'er) probably couldn't bleed at the roadside if she runs out of fuel. I will drum into her that the spare fuel should be used before the situation gets critical. I will be adding a prime pump to the spare wheel toolkit after watching this, cheers @powerfulukltd

Work on diesels and probably see about 10 blocked fuel filters a week causing all sorts of issues, recently had a lady come from main dealer after having pump and injectors changed on a Ford focus due to cutting out under load, needless to say it didn't cure the issue, fitted a clear line between pump and filter and could see it was dragging air, bypassed filter completely and air was gone. New fuel filter at about £15 could of saved her around £1200. Constantly seeing people replacing vp30 and vp44 pumps on transits as diagnostics says fuel pump failure when probably 7 times out of 10 its a blocked filter. With the shitty fuel about these days the fuel filter is probably the thing that needs to be changed most often!

You need to open fuel tank before first start the engine after changing filter to level the pressure and not necessary to unscrew the high-pressure pipes.

you are wellcome:-) what i appreciate, is, that you just try to do /manage it!! by the way, the one scew is the drain for the wather witch is seperate by the filter. i hope that the hp-pump is still working fine!!! becaust the pump is lubricated by the diesel and if it runs without you will know what will happen........... @@L663

next time, disconnect the pipe, comming up from the fuel tank, connect your tool (handpump) and connet the tool again with the"in" from the tank.pump until the handpump is hard!!! than the system is bleeded and the HP-pump will be lubricaded well.thats the official way to bleed this system to protct the HP-pump.

I do not want to wish to upset anyone, but attempt to tell it as it really is, and believe I am very well qualified to do so. Do not keep cranking the system in such a fashion, and dont give people the wrong information that could result in a repair, or injury that nobody wants. Take the new filter out of the box [ genuine ] remove the red protector on the induction pipe on the new filter then fill through this induction pipe with clean diesel. When the filter is full remove the pipework from the old filter and with the minimum delay connect to the new filter, start motor and run at approx 1500 revs for one minute then road test. Now I hope you understand my previous remark.

Amateur video, you should never crack common rail pipework, can hold 100 bar plus residual pressure and pass fuel clean through your hand! Also bet the pipework seal fail in the near future. This is why I cringe with wanna be mechanic's on u tube! Some one will be seriously injured one day. Regards a proper qualified diesel engineer

There is two types of filter..one is solid and one with the removable top with spring clip where the one way return arrow is. For the solid filter use the multi-purpose hand pump to pump diesel in the inlet till some come out other end ( make sure other hole of return pipe is block). With removable spring clip remove the clip then fill it to the top then refit the retainer clip. Remember you can drain diesel from the old filter by use hex screw anti clockwise on top and it should come out through the drain pipe underneath.

The best way to do it is fill the filter with forte and then it should run fine. You need to make sure the filter is full to the brim tho.

NEVER pre-fill a filter. You will cause severe damage to your injectors if you get even the SLIGHTEST of contamination in there, which diesel has plenty of contamination.

@@AlexGreenwoodUkulele If you use the correct priming device on the outlet side, are you not only sucking out filtered fuel? I can kinda understand if you are using a "cuban IV" to fill it but with a primer you are effectively emulating the effect of the fuel pump. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Been fixing tractor engines for years, slackening the injector supply line nuts (not taking them right off like the video here does) is the quickest easiest way to bleed the system. Never had the line leak afterwards yet. I have to admit I've never had to do it with a car, but have done it hundreds of times with diesel engines on tractors/combines etc. Never had any issues arise because of it. Would be far easier if manufacturers just put priming pumps on the vehicles again though. That way, disconnecting fuel lines etc wouldn't be needed.

Hi I need some help, range rover evoque 2015 same system as this , the low fuel pressure pump in the fuel tank does it pump fuel to the front automatically if you switch ignition on or does it just fill the bottle in the tank

Hi - i have had fun with fuel pumps last week - see my other video on the Sport L494 i just posted I guess that the low pressure fuel pump in the tank will start with ignition ( sometimes it is with door opening ) and pressurise the fuel line ready for the engine to start.What is your problem ?

Incorrect. This has an electronic scavenger pump, not a lift pump. The pump in the tank only levels the fuel between two tanks. The high pressure fuel pump is mechanically operated via the cam shaft… and only sucks fuel from the tank.
