I bought a Jeep solely for the 'go-anywhere' factor that enamored me since I was 2 or 3. Seeing a 20 year old Subie with maybe $1k in mods do the same on the trail as (if not better than) a new Wrangler hurts my ego more than it hurt my wallet. Your channel pits my USDM and JDM spirit against each other like none other.

A bit more than that I'll say, though she is mostly homemade with a $500 chassis, so yeah, point taken. You're right though. It's not just about granny or Subaru. It's about reclaiming a dream you left behind long ago. That thing you thought so highly of as a child until you grew up, realizing along the way that it wasn't everything you thought it was - and that you were wrong. It's about returning to that thing and saying to yourself, "what if it could be?". And for that bit of introspection we expect you to start modding your Jeep or pick up an old Subaru to granny-fy 👍 Keep us posted.

Thanks dude! We had one of the inclinometers mounted for the camera to see for a period of time, but it was sort of hard to interpret. You're actually the first to voice interest for this however, so we'll see if we can't figure something else out. An OSD would be awesome.

Hey, thanks for watching! Your Forester looks like a regular passenger car to the untrained eye. Granny is roughly the shape of passenger car, but the battle scars and bits of utilitarian steel poking out help to clue them in that this might not be our first rodeo. Or that we're crazy enough not to be questioned. It's hard to say which.

Those trails are amazing, I especially loved the caves part! Nice drive and good effort for the granny 🔥 Gnarly was the right word! When you know that camera never give justice of how bad the trails are 👊

Thanks! And yeah, this particular route is especially scenic for a low-land trail. I feel like using multiple cameras helps to convey a sense of the environment but you're right; it's never the same on camera. A couple of those caves seemed like they went in pretty deep; we'd climb in to see if we were a little braver...but exploring possible old mines or likely current bear dens kinda seems like a bad idea.

If you could, I’d love a walkthrough video of your custom bumper. What it clears, what angles you took, what it links to, etc. I have an 02 forsster and was looking at it, and it doesn’t look like it would improve clearance as much as your bumper does. Did you modify radiator or headers or skemthing to add room?

@@TheEagleProject If I recall correctly I think you do need to cut into some of the sheet metal on either side and loose the radiator bracket. Radiator support is integrated into the bumper now

@@iimprezius841 well, we are definitely entertaining both, but realistically a turbo motor such as the ej255 is the most pragmatic option for us because we can get vtd while retaining the advantage of our current 4.44 gearing (provided it's from the correct donor). Plus, hill climbing is sort of an optimal application for turbo.

@@powerofyourbrains I think EJ205/207 should be the way. By "get VTD" do you mean you'll be changing center diff part for VTD and get rid of ACT-4/MPT?

Our phase 1 4eat is incompatible with VTD from later models. VTD is sort of a hybrid center which also contains a little MPT...check out our various diff/center videos if you wanna learn more. And I believe usdm ej205/207 donors came with a higher drive ratio

slamming that gap is pretty much unavoidable unless you have a really long wheelbase or a ton of lift. Back wheels go up as the front wheels go down, like an off-road teeter totter

Sorry, I'm afraid that KZbin doesn't really pay the bills as of yet...maybe some day. And that is how it works. If I had to guess it's either the camera bouncing around in its case, rocks banging off of things, or ratcheting during momentary breaks in throttle.
