I’ve watched your vlogs for quite a while and although I don’t quilt I find them fascinating, the things you make are really beautiful. I have been sewing for about three years (came to it a bit late and wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it) but I do and it has taught me patience I never knew I had, I am still making mistakes but also learning lots from people’s vlogs. I really envy your sewing room, I sew in our spare bedroom which is quite small but once I start, a couple of hours passes in no time and I love it. Since lockdown I’ve ordered fabric online for the first time, usually go to the fabric shop in the local town. You are so lucky in USA in the pricing of fabrics and especially sewing patterns, they are much lower than here in the UK. Best Wishes for your retirement and keep making great videos

I looked too and thought it had an USB port so...I actually haven't received the sewing machine yet but in a couple days, I will, I'll double check. I asked the seller but hasn't responded yet. If it doesn't, I will return it and I'm going to get a Brother!!
@PowerToolsWithThread4 жыл бұрын
I actually woke up in the middle of the night upset about this. It appears that the more recent models of the machine - still the ESG3, have a USB port (why would BL do that?). So unless you can lay eyes on the side of the actual machine, or get the seller to respond and actually know what they are talking about, then it's a crap shoot. Can you cancel the sale? If I recall the price was less than $1,000 so my guess is that is does not have a USB. Others on eBay are going for $1,400. Did you look at the accessories to see if it comes with a card? If so, then there's a hint at your answer, but some machines have slots for both. If it has a card only, then it might be worth investing in an adapter like this one to be able to save and transfer designs (if the machine's card will fit in the slot). amzn.to/2WITRN1 But I had a card at one time and it wouldn't fit in the adapter I had for a compact flash.

Oh boy can I empathize with you about retirement. I studied retirement rules & prepped for months before turning in my paperwork. I called to inquire about the correct way to complete one of the forms prior to submitting it and I still had to re-do it once my caseworker received it. I guess it's like regulations...whomever reads the regulation interprets it in their own way and no two people seem to come to the same conclusion. I felt that I had my submission package perfectly completed and still had that snafu. Good luck is all I can say! You can expect to get your final annuity about 3 months after retirement. Be sure to create your OPM account once you get your CSA number. You can track the progress of your case once OPM receives it.
@PowerToolsWithThread4 жыл бұрын
That's great advice! Thanks. I totally understand how to mess up those forms. "Do you want to have Option B if you are eligible?" Choices are: Yes, No, and I don't have Option B. My response, "No" bc I don't want Option B whether I'm eligible or not. Well, "No" was wrong and I should have chosen, "I don't have Option B". But I already told them 3 questions before that that I didn't have and don't want any of their insurance! Grrr. I have Tricare. (shakes head)...These people... :-)
@kristi82204 жыл бұрын
Power Tools with Thread exact same thing happened to me! I don’t have/want Option B, so logically I said “no”. I guess I actually had 2 forms incorrect. Lol. Glad that’s behind me now. Enjoy watching your countdown clock. That was fun!

I retired on Dec 31, 2011, but on my firms I put Jan 1, 2012 because it was my 1st day of retirement. My supervisor didn't tell me. I didn't get paid for 2 months and it took a week for them to figure it out. When my hubby retired from his job, he just walked in to HR, said he wanted to retire, and that was it, he was retired. When I first got my embroidery/sewing machine I also had 2 spools of thread in the spool holder. The same thing happened. When I took it to the dealer they explained the fhread had just moved in the air current created by the other spool unwinding as it was used and the long tail of the other spool spool caught onto the hand wheel. It started winding aroubd it. Luckily I stopped before it went into the body of the machine like yours did. The repair guy laughed as he pulled the hand wheel off and pulled the thread out. I would have never known how to the the machine cover off, and it would have voided my warranty if I had. I truly feel your pain.
@cathy33929 ай бұрын
I had some thread in my hand wheel. It stopped my machine. Unfortunately I don’t know how to take the hand wheel apart or even if you can. That cost me $350 at the repair shop.
@cherylschuller49814 жыл бұрын
Boy, been there, done that. I have learned that you never leave an unclasped spool of thread anywhere near the flywheel of your machine. I think the air made by the spinning wheel sucks the thread right in. Mine made my machine run even when I took my foot off the pedal!

Becky, I feel you! I retired in Jan 2010 FERS! It took 10 months to receive my first check! I called constantly, it didn’t help. The one that I had been using wasn’t getting paid. What a nightmare! Stick in there!

If I have the Brother Scan N Cut, I won't need to buy the Accuquilt, correct?
@PowerToolsWithThread4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think so. The Accuquilt is good if you're going to cut a million HSTs or a ton of other repetitive shapes. But for applique pieces that change with each project, you won't need an Accuquilt. I've thought about getting one but realized I'd never use it.

I had the same thing happen to me with my old Juki. The thread got caught in the wheel. I now no longer put more than one thread on my machine at a time. I hope you get all your retirement stuff figured out. I don't know why it has to be so difficult to do something that should be so simple.

I have the exact same machine, that happened to my 3 months ago. It took me forever to get the thread out of there too. I know there's still some thread in there. I wish knew how to get the hand wheel off so I can get all the tread out of there. OMG, I had bought the Baby Lock Ellageo 3 and am returning it, it doesn't have a USB port, yuck....
@PowerToolsWithThread4 жыл бұрын
Really? I looked at reviews on that machine and thought that it did. The Ellageo ESG3 has a USB port and the 6x10 hoop (link below). Isn't that what you got? I would have never said OK if I didn't read it had a USB. It's impossible to find a photo of that machine from the side where you can see if it has a USB and I normally pull Brother manuals from their site for free but Baby Lock wants $12.99 for the manual so I couldn't look at it. I'm never recommending a Baby Lock machine ever again. I'm glad you can return it. Do yourself a favor and buy a Brother. Baby Lock and Brother are made in the same factory and Brother is less than half the cost. sewing.patternreview.com/review/machine/2106

@@PowerToolsWithThread Sorry to hear that. Here at Patuxent River I went to a retirement class, and during the presentation, the local guy was there. He gave us his email and phone. Both my husband and I sat down with him before we submitted out paper work. Sometimes DoD is its own enemy. I will tell you once you get all the paperwork done, it is pretty smooth sailing. Another recommendation: check all your insurances, leave (sick and annual), and it will take OPM 30 days to get all your paperwork together. You will get a boatload of paperwork in the mail, just check it over and get your account setup for your retirement account with OPM once you get your ID number. But all in all. Well worth it.

Be careful. They “helped” my husband fill out his form regarding his and my life insurance policies and told him wrong. We now have no life insurance policies and he was unable to go back and fix it........

Retirement paperwork. Good luck. You know how we Feds do. You’re supposed to get someone assigned to you to help you then at least it would save you some stress and time.

I recently retired from the Fed gov and had no problem. What does your HE people do? Your base should have a skeleton crew at least and mail your paperwork at their expense, not yours. Good luck on your retirement, I'm loving mine, and I enjoyed my job!we
