We used to call these types of designs "Box Wings" or "Closed Wings" depending on the configuration. The wing surfaces don't need to be the same size -- so you could even shave off some area there to adjust weight and COG as needed. In principle, Box wings are supposed to reduce induced drag but that rough underside on v3.0 likely isn't doing you any favours ;-) Glad it works well enough though and it is an interesting design for sure.

You're right. The added weight of a paper covering would be well merited to decrease that drag! -Kyle

Isn’t it missing a rear elevator? Or is it sufficient to have the center of thrust slightly below the center of drag? (i.e. the propellers are on the bottom and turn the plane skywards)

That was pretty cool even though I’m a 54 year old grandfather of 12 it a very great little toy to open up a child’s mind !!! And at less then $100.00 it GREAT 👍🏻 and yes I have one also lol 😝

That's cool. Just a thought but you might try reversing the wing so that the upper part is forward of the lower wing. A nose heavy plane flush poorly but a tail heavy plane flys once. I enjoyed your experiment. Thanks!

The front edge (facing forward) should be thicker than the rear edge to fly higher

I'm no aeronautical engineer, but I reckon that even with your mark 3, that "wing" is acting as ballast not providing lift! Can the powerup fly by itself without any wing? Does it fly worse if you replace the wing with a rock of the same weight? I'm not trying to be nasty, it's a cool project, but the wing doesn't look to me like it's providing any lift.
