Really nice to hear these songs. The people have been in San Diego County for over 10,000 years. The songs are at least 4 thousand years in origin. People saw the annual migrations of huge flocks of birds, which influenced them to sing about nature, and their surroundings. The songs all connect in a cycle, which could take hours to complete. Females do not sing, but dance as birds on the ground. Each band within the tribe had a variation of movement. There are also songs during the Peon Game, and women can sing

we can sing. we just don't use a gourd, and we do it while were dancing across from them, but it gets tiring dancing AND singing sometimes lol

@@jadalynpham600 A-ha! I've heard women sing at the peon games, but had not heard during bird dancing. Maybe because I'm filming? Don't be shy!

As a native, these songs are meant for mother earth because we are the people of the land. So we sing our gratitude for mother! Her children sing for her! To heal her!

I'm from Barona and growing up in the 60's and 70's I didn't really know much about the Bird Singers, my grandma would take us to different places to hear them, but it was nothing like today. I'm so glad they've come back strong in our culture, same with our language. my grandma Lucy Adams and my aunt Evelyn Lloyd taught me a lot about our culture and traditions, but they left us too soon, there is so much more for me to learn.
