I've moved here from north-eastern Poland in 2018 and I've loved it ever since. Poznań has all the things that a big city can offer you, while still retaining that homely, comfy feeling. It's hard to describe, but I love it.

Hi Rob. KZbin just recomended your vlog to me about Poznań and i'm in love how you described and showed my hometown. Poznań may not be top1 city to visit in Poland but it has its own charm and it's worth to visit it at least once. Happy to see you liked it here! I lived 6 years in north England and i miss hilly landscapes and (not popular opinion haha) English food! Sometimes i crave shepherd's pie and i need to make one at home here in Poznań. Thank you for visiting mate!

I've been living in Poznań for 2 years now. No regrets! Fun Fact: Poznań is sometimes called "Rozkopane" ("Dug up"/"Excavated"; a play and reversal on Zakopane - "Buried") due to the multiple and frequent constructions and renovations happening, which often blocks public transport and/or car traffic.

I am 45 years old and I live in Dublin from last 20 years. I like Ireland.... Long time of my life. Anyway i am Polish ❤ in my heart ❤️ i have Poland. I born in 1979 in city called Lublin in east Poland. Lublin is a large city. I lived in there only 12 years , after that i started to live in city called Siedlce. I love my hometown Siedlce. I really do. !!!! I left my hometown right after college in 2004. I started work as a security guard in Ireland. Poland is over 1000 years of history. 966 Poland started as a country. We have a good kings and bad 👑 king's..... Good times and bad time's..... One time in the history Sweden attacked Poland.... 1650 , this tragedy we call a Swedish Flood.... Swedish army was very brutal 30 % of population was killed.... From 1795 to 1918 was very 🖤 black times , was no country at all..... We got independent 11 of November 1918. National hero is a Joseph Pilsudski , he is Father of Independence.... He passed away in 1935. We had a war with Russia in 1920 and unexpectedly we won that war.... 😊 In September 1939 two countries Germany and Russia attacked Poland from East and West... Army 🪖🪖🪖 unfortunately lost in 5 weeks time.... Wad no chances..... But partizants was a different story.... Home 🪖 army called AK was fighting all the time. 400.000 partizants. Unfortunately we didn't got freedom after war world two.... It was New Red 🍒 Poland fully occupied by Russia.... Some partizants decided to keep continue the fight with comunizm.... We call them a doomed soldiers. 100.000 partizants was fighting in forest and country side , next 20 years.... Last doomed soldier was killed in 1963..... Every year 1 of March is a National Day of Doomed Soldiers..... They are heroes for us.. Poland got freedom in 1989

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but a Scotsman and a man from Poznań invented copper wire. At the same moment, they saw a penny on the ground, picked it up, and each pulled it in their own direction. This fake story/joke reflects how people from Poznań are perceived in Poland-as particularly frugal. At the same time, it also speaks to how Scots are viewed. Best!

"There's where the Poland started" it's quite a common saying about Poznań. And it's true. ;D Even if the first capital was Gniezno, because there was our Duke's residence but Poznań was the biggest commertial point and living space at that time
@xot80
@xot80 4 ай бұрын
Where was Mieszko I's residence? In Gniezno? Well, let me repeat the story. There was a much larger residence in Poznań, a summer residence in Lednogóra on Ostrów Lednicki, and a center of worship in Gniezno. There was no princely residence in Gniezno.. All the important pagan temples were in Gniezno, but not the center of power. Do you want to tell me that Mieszko lived in a run-down little hole with a city huge for those times right under his nose? His power would have crumbled if he had lived 50 km from the main place where taxes were collected. In addition, a baptismal font with a diameter of over 2 m was found in Poznań. Do you have anything similar in Gniezno? I guess the baptism took place in Poznań after all. Mosina was more likely to be the capital than Gniezno.
@twisters999

@@xot80 Well true. And taking the fakt that at that time, the Leader had to be always in move to rule the country with success and We can say that the capital was where he actually was, the Poznań could be the biggest and the main Residence. :)

As a local I have to agree that we miss the pink color when asked about the typical colors of Poznań. We usually think of blue/white or green/yellow (our buses and trams are green and yellow). Highly recommend coming to Poznań around 11th Nov. The whole country celebrates the Independence Day but only Poznań does it with Rogale Świętomarcińskie (yeast croissants with poppy seeds feeling), because we celebrate Saint Martin Name Day that day.

Maybe go to Łódź, there are no such post-industrial areas anywhere, there are cities within a city, as well as eclectic and 19th-century tenement houses, palaces, and factory owners' villas. Łódź is a completely different city than Poznań or Wrocław, there are old cities (historic market square and town hall), and Łódź is one big old city with outskirts

Jestem Poznanianką z dziada pradziada i kocham to miasto. Ps. Specjalnie piszę po polsku. Radzisz sobie z naszym językiem coraz lepiej. Food is a very regional experience, but ar the same time you have to remember that a lot of spices was a "new world descovery of 15 and 15 centuries, so if food is called traditional it will be similar flavours all across Europe - meat with rich sauces ,game meat, cabages, carrots all that you could grow. Even potatoes, tomatos and chocolate are thinds that came later. Also obviously UK having their long history as the Empire, and having India as its part for almot 200years , they now know a lot of more "exotic" flavors, but simples flavours dominated Europe for many hundred years. And pickling was a way to preserve food so it would last longer, but something thats being lost in Uk nowadays, but continues in othe parts of the continent.

I'm sorry, but Poznań is not the oldest city in Poland. Kalisz is considered to be the oldest city, with mentions of it found in writings from the times of the Roman Empire. Unfortunately, there are not many monuments in it because it was the first city to be completely destroyed. This happened during World War I. In the interwar period it was practically rebuilt. However, Poznań can be considered one of the oldest capitals of Poland. It is generally agreed that the oldest capital is Gniezno, but at that time there were no central institutions and the place where the ruler resided was considered the capital. Since Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) was the first district of Poland and the two largest cities there were Gniezno and Poznań, the prince and the king stayed there most often. Well, we conventionally consider Gniezno to be the oldest capital of Poland.

Obie te miejsca są w okolicy Poznania (50km) Poznań has a bit of an ego and adds to itself these beginnings of statehood. The first capital has always been and is Gniezno and the baptism of Poland took place in Ostrów Lednicki. Both of these places are near Poznań (50 km)

W przyszłym roku mamy tysiąclecie, koronacji i śmierci Bolesława Chrobrego, fajnie jakby Poznań z Gnieznem coś wspólnie przygotowały. Pewnie będzie to też świetna okazja żebyś odwiedził oba miast i się trochę doedukował. [English] Nobody is adding anything. Formally, we a capital in Poland since the times of Kraków, before that it was a very formalized, because there was no document that would establish such a thing. It is certain that the first bishopric in Poland was located in Poznań and that it is one of the residences and burial place of the first rulers from the Piast dynasty. As for the baptism, not much is known, even the year 966 is kind of assumption and here you are trying to pretend, that you know where exactly it happened. At the moment, the 3 most probable places are Ostrów Lednicki, Gniezno and Poznań (where something that could be a baptismal font was found, whether it exists, we will probably never know). Next year we have the millennium, of coronation and death of Bolesław Chrobry. It would be great if Poznań and Gniezno prepared something together. It would probably be a great opportunity for you to visit both cities and educate yourself a bit.

We Wrocławiu też stoi tam taki okropny budynek.
