It is becoming increasingly common to dip new koi in pp,while i understand the logic in doing this the facts are clearly different, 99% of problems are caused by stress factors which lead to trigger factors in the koi/pond, firstly it has been netted, bagged,boxed,transported and then removed and added to a completely new environment, all of which are stress/trigger factors, if you then choose to dump your new koi in a bowl of harsh chemicals you are only adding to the stress already on the koi,next we have the use of orp meters, can anyone tell me how they think a cheap Amazon orp meter at £10 can give accurate/reliable results as a professional bit of kit costing many £100s Then you have the production of the mucous membrane or slime coat which is controlled by the fishes own immune system to protect itself from attack, which you remove with a dip treatment straight before adding to new environment just when it needs it most, you are in effect removing its bullet proof vest then sending it to the front line! Sorry about the rant but i could go further in depth regarding this subject, my advice would be for keeper's to make up their own minds on what they should do as they now have a new koi that they are responsible for its welfare, or take advice from an experienced koi dealer or some other trusted professional, also their is a informative read on dr Paula Reynold's site relating to her own research regarding permanganate and its use,

@walkerkoi4886 get what your saying Rob but hobbest trying to do what they can to rid there Koi of anything they may have, as for the ORP Meters mine was £70 I know there's more professional kits available but your talking big doshh. The reason a lot are using PP is the cost of some of these treatments manufacturers produce are far too expensive and having our pants down for something that doesn't even do what it's supposed to it's never ending mate.

In Japan, everyone has worked out an annual plan to avoid the use of such items, which can be pre-sterilised twice a year (before the feeding season and before overwintering). This means that no new KOIs are added unnecessarily during the summer feeding season and no SHOWs are held.

Great advice. I've been following the exact procedures as you. Using powder as a dip is a dangerous game. I calibrate my Hannah orp metre before every dose.

Another good video Craig I have always used the Kusuri powdered version for dips I have always been told 1% per 10litres of pond water for a 4 to 5 min dip I have never had a problem.

Good video Craig. Good advice there. It's a real tricky subject as it seems that the seemingly cautious dosing levels given, in affect seem to be ineffective in treating the issues you are trying to get rid of. Then people use higher dosing but it's a huge risk and therefore cannot and should not ever advise, as the consequences could be a law suit ££££££££. There really does need to be a better answer than this, because this is a great hobby and a pretty expensive one. I really do feel for that poor lady, whose lost her whole pond.

I’m very afraid to use PP because I don’t know what I’m doing with it. I watched both the videos you’re referring to about the PP overdose causalities. It’s gutting to lose your koi. I feel so bad for that woman and for Dave.

You don’t need to PP new fish a pointless exercise, take a scrape by all means if the fish is clear then leave alone its stressed enough already.

It’s such a shame to see videos when people lose all there koi when they are only trying to help there koi in the first place But like you said it is so dangerous putting any chemicals into the pond and how much to put in I think this is why it’s so hard trying to help someone in the hobby on what to do in different situations and problems Good video to make people aware about how serious pp can be If not used the way it saying to be used
