Honestly this is a really good analysis of why reworks get made, this added layer of mapping disparities should definitely be taken into consideration when reworking skillsets for the pp system

mapping disparities might not matter as there is already enough maps of each skill area. Fcing a map doesnt always mean you can fc a similar one. I think its worth someone checking the importance of mapping disparities and its effect on the pp system but not guaranteed to be good.

I'm pretty sure the flow aim nerf is because of reshuffling of wide angle bonus flow aim is practically non existent in pp, and it's rewarded as combination of low spaced high bpm aim and distance bonus in speed they changed it in the way that spacings below "spaced" gonna be awarded much less in aim and more in speed, so every map that has only flow aim below spacing threshold and no jumps is gonna loose pp I personally don't like this change at all because it makes values worse, but pp committee said that they had to do that because previous behaviour was plainly incorrect Aim pp, tap pp and acc pp is not a random "cool" separation, it's literally how pp works (aka just summing different skillset values). Technically you can point on High BPM aim bonus that applied for 300+ maps and say that they're High BPM aim The problem is that flow aim maps are also getting this bonus, and they're also High BPM (180bpm streams = 360 bpm jumps) And it's stupid to consider 300bpm as not High BPM but 301 is suddenly High BPM because it's getting +0.1% bonus for High BPM jumps So the categorization is not very useful from the technical standpoint

Hmm I never thought about that, I do think plays being categorised for observation could be helpful though, as that's how players find maps. But in terms of actual coding or pp rebalancing I agree it wouldn't make sense.

Something I see almost nobody talk about is that there ARE high bpm aim maps that are lower star rating and give less pp. These maps are already way too underweighted right now but they STILL get nerfed like crazy in the latest rework. I just wish they would focus more on nerfing the extremely overweighted repeating patterns like in reform's sans map as those are actually what is making high bpm seem so overweight.

Website dev here, the reason that aim, tap, acc and fl pp are shown on the site is because those values are what makes up the total pp value of a score. As givikap mentioned as well, they are not separations I thought of myself, it's just how pp is calculated and the site allows you to see those values separately. You can see them on the site in your top ranks as well if you enable the "Show separate pp values" checkbox on the site. On the other hand, there is no such thing as "high bpm jump pp" for example. That is not a separately defined skill part of the pp calculations, so it's not shown on the site because the value simply doesn't exist. And because it doesn't exist, adding a value like that to the site would not be an easy change at all and also wouldn't make much sense, because the shown value would be made up and not something that determines the total pp value.

A really good anlysis overall. I just wanted to correct you in some aspects. First, aim in general gets a slight buff before implementation so the small nerfs every score gets will get reverted (?) when the rework actually hits. Additionally, very small changes on maps are pretty much just "noise" from the changes, it cant be avoided, but if its only like 10pp on a 1k pp score it usually isnt too big of a deal, unless it happens multiple times. Also, a reason why Epitaph is overweight is one diffspike at the start (for example sans has the same issue), and there is currently a rework in planning trying to fix this. This comment isnt meant in bad faith, I just wanted to point these things out, so people can understand better :)

the mapping thing is what i always thought about. speed wasnt overwheighted imo, it was simply because lots of speed maps got ranked, so people started learning it, and then it became overwheighted. you cant really say a skillset is overwheighted until there is enough maps of that skillset.

speed is overweight simply because it's a gimmick skill, go look at professionals of any instrument where you can do a similar motion to streaming (so for example, trills on the piano/synthesizer) and guess what? the professionals will have quite the drastic range of speed difference on that movement, simply because that is extremely genetic. like i've literally been playing for 4 years and i can't even stream 200 😭

In my opinion high bpm aim shouldn;t be nerfed THAT much as 270bpm streams, because the streams were kind of a p2w because of wooting and sayodevice(rapid trigger), but people had tablets before(not trying to skip mouse players such as secretbox and ivaxa) , so high bpm jumps take more skill and arent p2w like streams are

i love how i, as a 36k who dt farms (no more than 285) and plays highbpm nomod, i lose about 116pp, meanwhile 1.5k rank loses 110pp and 8,6k rank loses 130pp, they both dt farm. it may be because i abuse csr quite a bit, and my acc is low, but i dont think its fair that i lose the same amont as a player who basically has double my pp.

Yeah, nomod is shit as of now. HDDT is like the move and HDHR is underrated even and hardly anyone touches HDHR compared to HDDT. Imo, they need to rework those two so that there is some balance in the game. (Exclude HDDTHR)

i never played osu, i just want to say that i think ranking should only be map based and not somehow calculated together and even changed over time to have a global rank

if we did that, the "top players" would consist of people who have alot of top 50 or top 10 or even #1 scores on maps. The problem with this is that you can memorize a map completely. so then world ranking would be all about memorization, not skill. Also, the scoring itself is flawed for something like this. a doubletime fc could be have alot lower score than a non-doubletime fc, while literally being 1.5x faster.
