Lobster222 Yeah. And HungryBox in 2nd place, with Armada being an almost-tied third. Mang0 is charismatic, but also stupid and assy/highly arrogant at times, and Mew2King is funny as hell, but also often childish and disrespectful. (Wouldn't go as far as to call them "gods", though. lol :p And so many people are starting to get close to their levels, too.)

RedHairdo Wouldn't call them "gods"? People have been calling them gods for many years. It's a title they've solidified themselves in in the Smash community. Have you not heard of this before? There are 5 gods, a king, and some demigods. I don't fully agree with your ordering. My opinion is that Hungrybox is a little bit "fratboy-ish" in person. He is nice though and a pleasant personality. I know M2K is the hardest to like because he's not a social guy, but I have so much respect for him. He works really hard and knows more about the game than anyone else. His way of playing isn't common as it's all about data. I love it! Mango is definitely the most popular and lately I've been respecting him more too. His arrogance is welcome for me. Check out his commentary. He has great insight. M2K and Armada, the two robots, are always the guys that I root for.

Balance in life is so important, and this man talks about the extra dimensions beyond just his career in smash, of striking that balance between wants and needs and convictions, and maintaining mental health, so serious. and people who are willing to talk about their own struggles of mental health and depression open the eyes of the world and make others more aware. You're an inspiration in how you play and how you carry yourself in conversation dude. There's so much good will and love from your fans out here, we're all wishing you the best. PPMD is the fucking man. Some people might not like this interview because it seems like PP just answers the question and then says what he wants to say, but he gives a lot of personality to his interview. The way he talks it feels like a stream of conscious thought of how he perceives himself and what he wants others to know, almost like he's imagined having this conversation before and is just now saying what he's been thinking for a while. PPMD is just so relatable and well... human. 1:49 That knowing nod and frown. Dude.... Kevin's an outstanding and remarkable guy, definitely my favourite player.

a huge disadvantage is that he is always rusty when returning to the competition. Everyone else is constantly playing echother so when they adapt and get better, ppmd is out of the loop so he returns to tourney's playing catch up.
@TehFrenchy299 жыл бұрын
+Teddy Rose He is very good at playing catch up though. Of course once he's playing other consistently top 8 players it's a bigger disadvantage, but he gets to warm up through earlier stages of the tournament whether by playing through pools or just playing other notables like DruggedFox, Zhu, Scar, etc. who are good but can't consistently beat players like Westballz, Plup, Hugs, etc. There is a very developed group of players not far outside top 8 or who are sometimes but not consistently top 8, who are good enough to adapt as new tricks come around but not necessarily as fundamentally skilled as PPMD.
@NinteddyRose9 жыл бұрын
Frantachy Yes but melee's meta has been shifting. Players keep up with it literally by attending tourney's. Look at Apex 2014. PPMD took that tournament from winners side with ease. No one came close to taking a set from him. Then look at apex 2015. He literally had to fight his way to first. He beat s2j literally because s2j messed up 2 crucial edge gaurds that any falcon main could easily get. We even see him play from behind at evo, getting 3-0'd by armada and hbox. He is good at catch up but not good enough to go to a tourney and just top armada like he did at apex. Armada is way too solid now. Same goes for the other gods, they have all adapted to playing eachother. PPMD has been out of the loop for a while which puts him at a disadvantage. Melee's top level play requires more than a tourney to catch up.
@TehFrenchy299 жыл бұрын
Agreed, he definitely struggled at both Apex and Evo this year compared to past nationals, I meant it more as a sign of how good he is that he's able to beat S2J and get far enough to play Armada and HBox despite not attending a tournament in the 6 months or so since the last one he'd been to. It's an unfortunate reality of his current circumstances he's contending with, and doing better despite than many other very skilled players achieve at all. And as I said, the disadvantage becomes far more noticeable when playing others in the top 8 as they are good enough to take games if not sets off of him at peak and he's not playing as well as he once would have been.

PPMD is by far my favorite Smasher, and from watching his matches I feel like he's the best of all time. People call Mango the "GOAT", and he's certainly an excellent player, but PPMD is better in my book. Loads of fun to watch, too. Good luck this weekend, PPMD!
@AskWaffles9 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Greaner That's actually true, Mango hasn't been doing too well this whole year.
@xlr84429 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Greaner "Better", "best" and "Greatest of all time" are all very different things. I agree that PPMD is probably better than Mango *right now*. And currently it is my belief that Armada is the best *right now*. But it is undeniable that Mango is the greatest of *all time*. His record is far beyond anyone in the game including the other 4 gods. That's concrete evidence right there. That's not something that can be lessened in the slightest. The only way that can change is if someone plays for a very long time and completely dominates for many years which is unlikely to ever happen. Mango may have been doing bad this year, but GOAT status is not something that changes in the span of 6 months.
@xlr84429 жыл бұрын
Totally untrue. Tell me, who in melee has a better record than Mang0? No one. His record is superior in comparison to everyone else. There are many times when he falters but that does not change the fact that no other player has accomplished what he has. That's what makes you or anyone the GOAT. Mang0 is also the greatest buster of all time as he constantly loses to lesser players in sometimes really dumb ways. Again, that still doesn't change the fact that Mang0's accomplishments exceed everyone. Perhaps if Mang0 quit and M2K and Armada just went on a rampage for a few years, they could dethrone him. That's not gonna happen though.
@sloanelliott89299 жыл бұрын
Random Weeb What about Ken? He was the best of all time and actually does have the best record of all time. Of course Mang0 is WAYYY better but Ken was the original greatest of all time and always will be because he was the first. PPMD: Westballz coming up there You have to question someone's consistency issues if they 3-0 Mango and get double three-stocked by Ken in the same lifetime.
@TehFrenchy299 жыл бұрын
+NintendoRPG Westballz is like Colbol in that they're very technically skilled players and good with combo followups (Westballz more than Colbol possibly in both) but historically inconsistent or allowing silly/stupid gains by their opponent. Westballz rarely drops a combo, but his neutral and edge games flag sometimes outside of a continuing combo even against people he usually beats. Colbol notably SDs frequently to the point many think he could be placing higher if he was just able to stop putting himself off stage. Commentators even shout out to Colbol during his sets that he's SD'ed so many times or never SD'ed once with a little awe in their voices.

Leffen? he said those names. but they need to get over it. not fair to PPMD that they judge him like that for being less active. thats ass backwards imo.

@ilovesmok9 жыл бұрын
BlackiceNoku I believe PPMD was just saying that was what they "would" say if it was them being interviewed about PPMD.
@capefeather9 жыл бұрын
BlackiceNoku I don't follow the social media aspects of Melee all that closely, but for me some of what Mango and Leffen say in particular in interviews and such is telling. At Paragon, for example, when D1 brought up PPMD, Leffen just kind of talked about how he should come to more tournaments if he wants to stay relevant (ironically this was shortly before Apex). At I think WTFox when Mango and Leffen were talking about Evo, they said how they didn't want PPMD to win because it would show that he could sort of "get away" with what he's doing. Both have also complained about PPMD lurking their streams, though YMMV on how seriously you want to take those complaints. I feel like top players (and I do think it applies to most top players, and Mango and Leffen are just less filtered) want to act like PPMD doesn't exist, and when a conversation obligates them to bring him up, they act like he doesn't have any particular reason for not grinding tournaments. Maybe they want to believe that the tournament grinding that they do is worth it, and when PPMD beats them it seems like it wasn't, to an extent.
