Stalin redrew East German-Polish border after the end of ww2. He gave the Polish some German territory to increase distance from Russia to this border and gave USSR republics of Belarus and Lithuania parts of eastern Poland. As a punishment to Germany and a concession to Poland after years of occupation as well as losing their eastern territory.
