This honestly shows me that a medieval game in the same style as Project Zomboid would actually be pretty nice. With just a map mod, and maybe a couple of 'enemy' mods for monsters besides zombies, it would be a pretty cool game on it's own.

The ballad of Gregory. Gregory was a school history teacher who always loved his subject, but never liked his job. He have always wanted to wander off into the woods to just survive alone as his job was tiredly social - he did it on his vacation days sometimes. But one day, without warning, he left mid work day.. No one has ever seen him since. But after some time, maybe day, week or a month, he started wondering why he didn't met anybody in the woods, why didn't the rescue team come after him to end his little game... So, when he returned to his town, he quickly found out that... There's no more civilization. He is *truly* alone. And he is surviving. He was a hermit only for quite some time, but now, it looks like, he will be one forever. He managed to find a small house away from civilization to live in, but he was planning to move to the whole other place in order to forget. And so, his wish to reenact the life of the ancients came true. Almost none of the modern tools or appliances were in a good enough condition to be worked with and so he needed to do everything by himself. His tools, his clothes, his buildings, gathering of his food, storage... The list goes on and on. After some time, he returned to his school to learn some skills he had forgotten. But also he, who's name now is Grug, wondered... *Where did all of the kids he once teached..?* Just *what* could've happened to them when he was away? Are they still around? Were they evacuated? Barricaded the house? ... Who knows - he couldn't find an answer to that question. After some time, he figured out that he just can't find an answer. And so, he succumbed to his primal desire to survive, trying to escape the reality. He build a fortress only for himself. He fished for days and days, making friends along the way... ... Still, sometimes he wonders. Maybe he's the reason the world has ended - some spirit listened to him and made them come true. Maybe he's the savior and someone is waiting for him - maybe there's more to life than the fortress and foraging. Maybe he was just lucky and barely escaped the zombie virus - he was away only for a week, after all. Well... Who knows. He doesn't care anymore. He... Probably has everything he needs. He is Grugg. Not some dumb teacher, bur a warrior. He was always like this. Yes. Always... Always. ... ... ...

This gave me an idea for a mod, if there isn't one like it yet: zeds are fascinated by fire. Primal instinct, they will be attracted by fire from a long distance, just like they are by sound, but will not step on it or get close enough to catch on fire; just stand there and watch for as long as it burns and as long as the player character doesn't get into visual range. The catch? Open fire from camp fires or molotovs go out way faster, rain will kill open fires quick. At night, outdoors fire will attract zeds from much further out. Characters who stand by a fire for a certain period of time will become more conspicuous due to the smell (temporary debuff), until they stand in the rain or wash their clothes and themselves. Fire is no longer effective as a means to clear huge hordes, maybe just soften them up a bit, but mostly distract them. Fire on zeds will do little damage and extinguish fairly fast. Camping will be much more dangerous, but can be used as bait. Something like that :)

The thing that most games get wrong abot archery and sword fighting is that swords use strength and bows use dexterity, in reality you don't need to be able to dead lift 150 pounds to swing a 2 pound sword effectively, bows on the other hand vary in draw weight and if you can barely dead lift 50 pounds there is no way you can use a bow with a 75+ pound draw weight (recomended for big game hunting)

The Fable of Grugg (Passage 1) In the beginning the realm hath one hero, underdog he may be. A man by the title of Grugg, the only man left to see. Ravaged by the evils of thine past civilization, Glass to the sole hath smite thine consternation. "A tree branch! My kingdom for a branch!" Grugg hollered to the unrelenting chance, His ire was as fierce a temperament as the hammer he wished to create upon a glance. (Passage 2) A river he hath bound himself to, our hero donned his bow. Taken up arms against the past, a self-made archer for all to know. He is Grugg and Grugg is he- archer, weaver, crafter, and survivor. Hell hath no fury like a Grugg once-scorned for the evils that roam shall face his ire. (Passage 3) The age of metal hath wrought a fine sire with a will harder than the steel he used to slay. "One for the eyes," the hero archer spake no fables or lies. "One for the nose," our hero doth decree with many a fallen bozo. "My tunic slaps severely," decreed our man in drip like none other. (Passage 4) Scrounger for the metal of progress, our hero turn thine eyes to the wares of old. With bellows and torch in hand, he dons his masked apparel as was foretold. While the return to the bridge came with scares aplenty, patience became a virtue; To be tempered in the furnace of metal to witness the most pleasant view. (Passage 5) The workbench became a cornerstone for the man once afraid of glass. Literature he sought, in order to not become little more than an ass. With his patience he sowed the preparations of thine future. Would be forged in steel, a weapon created to torture. But alas, there was nary a hammer to his name. And thus his night ends with the bitterest shame. (Passage 6) Rather than drown in thine anger, the benevolent Grugg crafted a stew most fine. With supplies in hand, the journey hath tested many patience were it not for this dine. Whilst a spear of hand-make is seldom a poor idea, Grugg approacheth with fork in hand. "This fork will slay many enemies!" Stab after stab it was true, up until the small fork met its end. Club Hammer in tow, Grugg doth treated himself with new arrows and new resolve. After a rest, existential crisis around his mine twice revolved. (Passage 7) By the passage of time, Gruggery hath met his own name, forged in the fires of his own ambition. Two bags of scrap and tools survived the trip, back to the river does Gruggery the First find his volition. "Chop by chop!" Said he, determined to bring civilization back. After breakfast came the furnishings and storage to keep him on track. With the new era of his claimed title came also thy first door. Perhaps what would come next may be even his own floor! (Passage 8) The age of metal officially began with the advent of the mace. Of Iberian in style, the mighty weapon would be sure to fight with grace! While the spear is far too large in make, the mace is sure to be reliable. Indeed, Gruggery hath forged a new home and prepared for the winter trouble.
