As a 3D animator and CGI lover I really like the amount of practical props and sets they used for the movie. Practical models and sets are limited with what they can do. Thats where CGI/VFX comes in, to fill those gabs. The best combination still is 50/50 practical and CGI. Props to the all the people working on this movie!

If I’m being honest, I think Xenomorphs looks better when they are CGI. Covenant, Alien 3 and Resurrection (the swimming scene) have the best versions of xenomorphs and I think it’s because they don’t look like a guy in a suit, and… it’s because CGI allows them to appear more “Alien”
@SGz_Eliminated4 ай бұрын
Ehh CGI is fine when it comes to showing smooth movement, like the Alien 4 swimming scene, that wouldn't work practically. But I think up close shots practical is far superior still to CGI. Ideally you want a good combination of both. As others have said, practical with FX touch up is the sweet spot. The CGI in 3 was honestly quite bad, the CGI was good in covenant but other design choices make it look a bit goofy.
@linkvagar23364 ай бұрын
@@SGz_EliminatedThe only cgi they used in 3 was for the Xenomorph's skin cracking after getting the sprinkler sprayed on it at the end. The shots that looked like bad cgi were acually superimposed puppetry. Instead of filming the puppet on set they filmed it in a studio infront of a green screen and then later superimposed it into the movie. That's why it looks so bad.

In a setting like an abandoned station I think just the practical effects do them enough justice like in that one scene [SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED] where the pregnant girl is stuck on the other side of the door and the Xeno is just stalking waiting for it to open so it can get them all, then it realizes that its not going to happen THEN it moves, but even then it's movements are still reserved and calculated which can be perceived as stiff compared to aliens, aliens 3 and resurrection (not covenant, that wasn't the same type of Xenos we commonly see so that one gets a pass for being super aggressive).
