Mary T. Newport, M.D. became a messenger in 2008 when she found a nutritional intervention that supplied ketones as alternative fuel for the brain for her husband Steve Newport with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Steve responded dramatically to consuming medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) from coconut oil which produce ketones when consumed. Two years later he improved again in a pilot study of one person consuming the Veech ketone ester…this ester added twenty more months of stability. Together these solutions gave him nearly four more better-quality years.
Dr Newport practiced neonatology in Florida for 30 years and served as founding medical director for two newborn intensive care units in the Tampa Bay area. After taking some time off to care for Steve, she resumed medical practice at the opposite end of the spectrum and now makes home visits with people who have chronic conditions. She is author of four books and an international speaker on the subject of ketones as an alternative fuel for the brain.
Dr. Newport is a Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist (CKNS) since September 2019 through a program offered by the American Nutrition Association.

She talked about fasting in another video . Can't remember what autophagy is . Motorcycle wreck last summer . Instant dementia . Hoping coconut oil , cutting down carbs 😫, exercise and blab blah blah will help .

By fasting and low carb and mostly good oils coconut oil, oil from nuts and seeds, avocados and a little olive oil . 25 grams of protein for myself I can hopefully, praying maintain my brain and bone health. I think the role of autophagy is another important player also.

My Dad and aunt both passed from Alzheimer's. Dr. Newport opened my eye to looking at alternatives. I eat keto and exercise regularly. I have incorporated MCT and coconut oil into my diet. My mental cognitive function has completely changed. my memory alone has gone beyond my peers to a point where I find them as forgetful. I used to wonder around looking for my tools at work and couldn't do normal type tasks. Yoga fires neurons that give me balance. I got a CPAP for my snoring. My gut microbiology is completely different. Ounce of prevention, pounds of cure. Lol

Does my solid coconut that is solid at room temperatures qualify as coconut oil? This is exciting!Thank you for doing this. I will see about ordering your book! I’ve already seen definite improvements in low carb, high good fats with my hypoglycemia so I know this is on the right track even with my own limited experience! Christine Jones

Erinacine in Hericium sounds particularly good against brain aging and Alzheimer. 1g of powder also countains 1mg of ergothioneine, so a 3g/day dosage provides 3mg of it. The thing is to find a good brand. Every day I eat 100g of white button mushrooms plus 3g of hericium powder. That should amount to 7-8mg of ergothioneine. Plus it provides 2.5mg of vitamin B5, which is good for diabetes, plus the beta glucans etc.

IMO, best prevention is to to become a fat adapted fat burner producing ketones. This is acheived with diet. I believe ketones are required from birth for brain health. Our brains are huge and need this energy source. The other big brained animal that produces ketones is the dolphin. Dolphins dont eat bread and pasta and drink soda. Problem is we spend our lives blocking ketone production eating crappy processed food and drink full of sugar and junk starches. We see the results in the epidemic of AD and other afflictions. I have been ketogenic for 25 years. I am counting on my ketones. I am ApoE4 and AD is in the family. So far so good. I am 65 still working developing spacecraft software.

Your energy and mind may have been 'helped' because MB is an MAO inhibitor. IMHO you should not take MB unless you have had a discussion with a physician. Elevated MAO can interact with a number of foods, drugs, street drugs, and supplements and put one in a crisis. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoamine_oxidase_inhibitor

I don’t think you can be low carb and eat legumes for protein…….unless you are saying “Low Carb” compared to the SAD diet and not 20-30 carbs total which is what is considered low carb.
