Do you get to choose where you want to police and how many times can you change from being a normal response officer to firearms etc and are u able to change where you police and say if I was assigned to Newton abbot how far do I patrol to torquay etc

You can't chose where you police but can put your preferences. They can put you places within 22 miles as the crow flies from your home address. The process is quite long so you wouldn't jump from one to another. That would be quite stressful. You only tend to leave ARV if you find it isn't for you, promotion or a change of department generally which you prefer. You probably wouldn't want to go back to response if you enjoyed ARV because you can do a lot of the same but have some more freedom and have better cars etc. It also takes too long training you and if you fall out of a weeks training, that can put you back months, and almost have to start the training.

You would patrol the Newton Abbot area and not tend to go into Torquay unless requested to do so because they'd run out of units so it could be quite often but not meant to be the norm. The patches do vary in size so it's difficult to say exactly
