In this video, I demonstrate how to set up feather boards not only for safety, but for making production runs go quicker when there are a lot of identical parts to run through. Shown here are practical applications for dado cuts, rip cuts, and router table fence setup.

Roger, I like your vertical featherboards. That's a clever idea, very similar to the technique they use on router tables with the rubber wheels. JessEm makes a nice unit.

Very smart! Thank you for this helpful tutorial. I’m always glad to find genuine woodworkers who teach others and share wisdom and safety tips. I appreciate your teaching style and the absence of annoying techno music while we learn and watch you work. (I’ll just skip the loud intro music!😉)

I have a job site saw with an aluminum top and a lousy fence. I never thought of making a secondary sheathing over the fence with track for feather boards, but I know my next project

G’day, I noticed you didn’t have a riving knife on your table saw. Is it ok to live without one. I just built built a circular saw table saw and don’t have a riving knife either do you have any tips for dealing with that?

I've been using table saws since the 1970s, when there was no such thing, so am accustomed to the absence and am very aware of the hazards associated with kick back and binding, so am careful. My other table saw is a Dewalt and does have one. I also have custom table inserts for the saw in the video equipped with splitters made by Micro Jig, for both standard kerf and narrow kerf blades. These work well, but were a bit of a hassle to install since it requires a custom table insert and some very precise layout.
