Nice video, on my wheelchair, I use a Wheelchair Wallaby Catch All. Its basically a net that attaches to the bottom frame of the wheelchair that you can carry stuff around in, the particular one I use has a zipper so I can store my parking placard, wheelchair gloves or whatever else I may need. That might be difficult for some people if they have a tall frame or can't reach that far down. I also have a wooden tray I use, it goes over my lap and attaches to my armrests with bungee cords.

One accessory I love is my FFORA bags/cup holder (though not all cups fit in my FFORA cup holder like slim water bottles) and if you're looking for cup holders mine is actually for a bike. I bought one originally for wheelchairs but it didn't fit but my bike one does and I can remove the cup holder from the bracket if it isn't needed. On my channel I've got a video review on my FFORA products if you're interested - they are expensive but worth it, I got most of my FFORA products gifted to me to review which was so so lovely of the company plus you can where the bags as a cross-body strap bag too.

3:22 Hi! :-D 3:59 I certainly did. 5:56 I agree with you there. You just reminded me of someone who said something like...they prefer to be seen as a person who happens to be sat in a wheelchair, as opposed to being seen as a wheelchair that happens to have a person sat in it.

Bert Visscher that’s a good way to put it, I feel the same way! Unfortunately KZbin has changed and so it’s now very difficult to see which part of the video with the time stamps, as I can’t see the comments and the videos at the same time :/

@@GeorginasJourney I have a power chair but this was neat, some of this I have seen the ideas before. I had some trouble making out what you were saying in the video but that might just be me. The echo in the room did not help. One thing I would suggest would be reflectors of some kind even if it is from stickers. Also KZbin is pissing me off because it did not find this video sooner as I have been subscribed for a while now... and I get a ton of tech related videos all the time not so much of the videos from other people in wheelchairs.
@GeorginasJourney

@@wheelieblind Sorry, but I can’t help it if the room is echo-y. This was the only room I could film in which fit my wheelchair. You can put the closed captions on if you need to, I watched the first couple of minutes of this video with the subtitles on and they seem to be pretty accurate :)

I have made lots of changes and additions to my wheelchair. Seat. Instead of buying a £500+ seat cushion I bought a cheap gel seat pad from an office supplies shop and put it inside my cover on top of my old cushion. I made a waterproof cover that slips over the back of the seat and tucks under the back bar (I have a rigid wheelchair), the front tucks around the cushion. It’s great for going swimming, sailing and windsurfing as it keeps everything dry and then rolls up with your wet clothes inside, to put in your bag so you can go home dry. It’s great in the rain too. (I like to use a bath mat with a waterproof backing too, for when I’m getting dry and dressed!) I have the same type of wheelchair sleeping bag, but I wear it back to front as the zip leaks when it’s raining. I don’t care about how it looks because it’s really warm and cosy. Wheels. I replaced my tyres when they were worn out with schwalbe marathon plus tyres. They have a gel layer that helps to stop punctures and a reflective strip around both sides of the tyre. I have an extra set of wheels that have mountain bike tyres on for going off road, and I can swap them out for clean wheels when I go indoors! The spokes have reflective covers on and I’ve lots of fun bike wheel lights to choose from, also reflective wrist ‘snap’ bracelets on the hubs. I replaced the push rims with ‘the surge LT’ push rims, and they have made a big difference to being able to push myself. Instead of being a round rim these are flattened and have a bead of rubber around the edge. The rubber helps with grip (or when I’m in splints I can just push on the rubber without having to grip at all) and is great when it’s wet. The flat side means you can break really easily without getting burnt hands (I like to go fast!). ...and if you use your wheelchair lots outside you can build up callouses on parts of your hands so you never need to wear gloves. Frame. I put bike lights on my frame when I’m out in the dark because some roads near me don’t have pavements or have pavements that are too narrow for a wheelchair. Bags. I have a bike type tool kit bag that’s like a pencil case size, velcro’ed to my back bar (it used to be on the axel but I have a smart drive), useful for repairs on the go, (and an extra catheter!). I can wedge a bag between my feet as I have a rigid footplate and the calf strap at the back stops it from falling off. Power. I use a smart drive. Expensive and took over six months to be repaired, but it has given me my freedom back. When mine broke I borrowed an older model, which starts when you push forwards, so if you’re going uphill it’s really difficult to push hard enough to start it, the new one just needs a double tap to start it, but the old one goes much faster than my new one :-) Billie.

Hi. I have POTS and I asked my doctor about getting a wheelchair and she immediately shut me off saying “you need to be as mobile as possible” With POTS, being mobile all the time isn’t always possible. What should I do?
@GeorginasJourney
@GeorginasJourney 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! You know your body and your needs better than any doctor ever will. There are thousands (probably tens or hundreds of thousands, actually) of people with POTS who have cases so severe that they need one. I was bedbound for 3 years with a heartrate of around 200 whenever I stood up (that was also before I was put on medication) and they said the same to me in the beginning- only you can know what you need. I fund-raised for mine and applied for financial help from two charities. Hope this helps Leah
