I teach Japanese. This is great for people who want to learn Japanese - very practical. We take in information from signages and when we understand what they mean, our mind becomes peaceful. I am going to incorporate your content in my classes. Thank you so much! Please keep it up!

Thank you for the fantastic comment - really appreciate it! 😁 So glad to hear you find the videos practical! Thanks also for sharing with your classes! More videos are certainly on the way!👍

The fact that I was able to understand 銀 with that weird way of doing it is impressive. I'm proud of myself

That's great! An unusual font can certainly make kanji more challenging (and interesting) to read! Thanks very much for watching.👍

What's the context for the 夜 and 朝 signs?
@nihongosignsАй бұрын
Good question - both signs are from a very busy subway station and would suggest they are likely used to help manage passenger flow during those periods of the day. Thanks very much for watching.👍

the painful obstacle of having the ability to read chinese but can't pronounce any of the Kanji, and thus becoming fluent in Japanese is so close and yet so far.

Last week my japanese teacher was just showing us some Tokyo signs on Google Maps, and talking about how important they are for those who are studying japanese. Then today this video was sujesteted for me. すごい 😃 ありがとうございます

The first 10 were pretty easy and straightforward kanjis you see in jlpt n5. But the later ones i was not familar with at all. I didnt even know tatami had its own kanji haja

😁 The degree of difficulty certainly increased as the video progressed! Thanks very much for watching.👍

It's frustrating when you can make out all the radicals but have no idea how to read it or what it means 😂 I knew that whale, eel, and duck were fish and bird related, respectively, but couldn't guess at it otherwise. Glad these videos exist, will be adding them to my references.

I started 4 months ago to study japanese. I recognized 4-5 kanji and I supposed that the kanji of whale was something about fish like restaurant of fish or some kind fish thanks to the radical of sakana 魚 (I’m not sure it is a radical) It’s a great exercise for practicing. Thank you ❤
@nihongosigns25 күн бұрын
👍- 魚 is indeed a radical used to form the whale kanji. So glad you found the video helpful! Thanks very much for watching 😁

The only ones I didn't know were eel and duck, although from the radicals I could guess they were some sort of fish and bird. The 'men' one I did guess, because it does have the 面 radical in there, so I guessed that it should be noodles. I'm currently around 1400 kanji in with Remembering the Kanji by Heisig, it's paying off! Thanks for the videos, these are really helpful!

Well, I knew 7 of them - which I don't think is bad since my structured study of Japanese was one night-course back in 1969. I was slightly thrown by 馬 - I said 'that's 'horse' but why is it displayed by what appears to be a restaurant. I'd never seen the 鯨 kanji, but recognised the components as 'fish' and 'capital' - cook concept.
