I loved his solo on May 25th 1975 Earls Court. He knows he had to make a statement. It was the last show and the previous night he seemed tired during MD. He comes out firing on all cylinders with nice camera shots of his hands and how he was holding his sticks. Wasn’t heavily gripping them. Oh so lightly. I think it’s a better solo then Royal Albert in 1970. He is older , better and smarter. Less arm movement more wrist action. Check it out.
@BONHAMOLOGY Жыл бұрын
Agreed, although he had already developed some refinement in his chops by 1970. But yes, much more economy of motion.

George, once again priceless! brotha and congratulations! on the Mr Jimmy shows Jimmy’s a friend of mine, really feel you and Jose are doing God’s work with all the research and different kinds of music you guys present, btw your take on “Love for sale” is awesome first time I saw you use traditional grip. After the Jason Bonham shows we’re gonna have Jimmy come up for a few tunes with our Led Zeppelin tribute ZEPTUNE so maybe we’ll see you there most likely early 2025, would be an honor to meet you brotha🎃- Brian

George, Absolutely brilliant. I think there's a massive craving from drummers out here that can play stuff, but are looking for a path (road map) to get us into a Bonham-esque style, so that we can play/jam have fun. Taking it with us and into places of our own in a natural way. ie it becomes part of our tool kit. There are small pieces out there, but not really a set of ordered exercises that build into the end product. It's knowing where to start and progressively add in small chunks / variations, over a longer time period (months/years) to build what I think we'd all like to have. Please more, more more .....

You're amazing George but, After watching John on that solo, I can't believe how fast and how easily he gets up to a tremendous speed without a flaw. It looks and sounds easy to the ears that don't know any better. It might be said that it sounds repetitious but, I play very fast quads but I don't have you hand speed. I definitly don't have John's.

I have a completionist question: There’s a couple of videos from the beginning of your channel that I can’t find. One is your first snare tuning video I think ( I specifically remember you talking about Ambassadors vs Emperors), and the other was where you tried to use a tunebot. I loved both those, it’s freaking me out that I can’t find them.

Nice! This is challenging to do slow and fast! 😜Great lesson George and excellent practice for coordination! Another example of why Bonzo's my favorite drummer. Where does this come from do you think of keeping the right hand ghosting in the solo? Buddy, Morello, Elvin, or just on his own? That footage from Earls Court is thunderous and shows how much he had amazing wrist and finger control. Plus, gotta say, those are some damn comfortable looking shoes you got rocking! Thanks! ✌❤🥁

Thanks Dave, that's very true. Notice his finger control on that video. I'm not sure really, but Max did a similar thing, so did Morello.
