I remember when they built Astoria Lanes. It used to be the Grand movie theater. I bowled there often with Dick Battista.

@bigjew899 I don't know how it is for short people, but I need to bend my knees and I have very long arms.(I'm 6'1" BTW). In my case, I need to bend my knees because by doing that, I'm more balanced at the foul line. I broke my ankle 7 years ago and can't slide anymore as a result. If I stand completely straight from start to finish, I can't stay balanced because my ankle is(or was anyway) my slide foot. Bending my knees makes it easier for me to remain balanced.

I got a 200 on this pattern today! Then I got a 101! Then a 93!!! Then back up to 181 and rested on a 161. What a world. I love this pattern, although, it forces me to get strikes in the pocket instead of my happy Brooklyn's :( I tried to match myself on house shot and failed horribly. out of 5 games, best was 186. The rest were 93, 96, 156 and 121. Stupid bowling, missing some easy spares and ripping out my hair!!! :) It's nice to see someone else who bowls at my level. I'm bowling tomorrow, most likely on Cheetah, or Shark and a house shot. Want to see if we can get a match going? We will tally the best of 3 games, no?

You need to be very accurate when bowling on sport patterns. Each of them will require you to play certain parts of the lane. Your technique for shooting spares will be different since you won't have the lake of oil in the middle to help guide the ball. Once you develop solid spare making techniques, I expect your scores to soar

@@irishpogi Yes, I was missing some spares I should have made easy. My arm dropped, or I was standing wrong, or some insanely little adjustment was off. I'm sure you are right about getting better scores once I fine-tune the delivery and get more strikes. Because I can't get a perfect 300 average if I'm a bit off. It has to all flow evenly and feel right every time. In order to win millions in tournaments I need to beat all the competition, and that also means beating Belmo at the end of every finals match. He will be there waiting for me as the top seed for every show.

@masao1 RIP Dick Battista! This place used to be known as Laguardia Lanes, then it became Maric Lanes then they changed the name to Astoria Lanes.

Ah, they changed the name since I left NYC. I used to live a couple of blocks from the alley on 47th street. This was my home house.

@xxIceWaLLxx Two of the guys I bowled with are short [5' 4"] and they say shorter people could get away with not having a knee bend. Look at Dave Ferraro! Look at Butch Soper! I am six feet tall in height but I also have bad case of arthritis in my left knee plus cartilage issues. I am also approaching 50.

That sucks about your knee man. Yeah I am 5'6'' and if I don't bend my knee on the approach I get a really bad look. So I kinda disagree with shorter ppl getting away with not bending their knee. Maybe its how your figure is. My arms aren't really long so I need to use my lower extremities more when I bowl.
