I’d love to see a video that defines a lot of the colloquial terms bowlers use. I’m talking about words like friction, ball up, ball down, shim, carry, etc. Also, a video that breaks down the three phases of ball motion on a house shot would be awesome. For example, around when should I expect a ball to move from slide to roll to hook? Thanks for the great content, guys! I love the channel.

100%. Modern bowlers use "Jargon" which does not help new bowlers learn anything at all. Good teachers speak plainly and clearly. Reminds me of this quote: "Beware Jargon. It usually hides ignorance and carries little knowledge."

Great video! I would love to see a similar video showing how to effectively ball change on transition. What factors lead you to choose a certain ball? For example, when your ball is burning energy early and you can’t move left, what are the options? How about for lefties that need to move left to avoid the lay down area of righties? Thanks, keep up the great work.

I've had nights where I take my normal shot and the only change I make is maybe 1 board left and get constant 200's. Other nights I've moved 7 or 8 boards to the left with my feet and 5 with my eyes and if I'm lucky I can get 170's or 180's. I can never figure out the lanes on what changes I need to make. Ball speed, different ball, more revs, less revs. UUggh. Love the work you guys put into these videos.

Incredible content. This is why this channel is so great. Especially at 16:41 when Brad talks about staying right and knowing how to adjust your speed instead of being forced left where you may be uncomfortable. You may not be able to do this on sport/PBA patterns as much, but you can definitely do it on a THS league. I NEVER move more than a couple boards further left than the third arrow as my target and don't need to because I control my speed. You have to work hard at this too so you don't "muscle" the ball and it doesn't interfere with your timing.
@GorgonOfZola15 сағат бұрын
My local house shot transitions front to back with added length. Moving left is no man's land for everyone because the carry down tames the friction. Our best option is to move right, ball down and adjust speed and hand position. Miss room also vanishes. Game 3 is always a struggle to find a consistent line to the pocket.

Awesome video guys! I’m a league bowler who loves to stand on 16-19 and roll up the 10 board. During league practice on freshly dressed lanes I strike, but by the 5th frame or so it’s usually too dry to continue down 10. I’ve been using that alignment since I first started bowling so it’s super uncomfortable when I move right; I’m a lefty. Anyway, I obviously need to practice so I feel comfortable opening the angles. Bottom line: This was the video I needed to see to improve. I’m going to start opening the angles until I get as comfortable as rolling up the 10 board. You two are great instructors and I watch all your videos. Can’t thank you enough for the video lessons!

Best video yet! Your explanation of your thoughts, strategies, and tactics was very informative. They way y'all talked through each shot was my favorite part. I would love to see this format move forward! It would be cool to have you guys do something similar for the sport and challenge patterns. I've been struggling on sport shot tournaments because I have to learn as I go. I look online for advice on certain patterns and try to figure out what to use, what surfaces, and lane play strategies. But the information is not very consistent. It would help to have something like a sport shot pattern library for us to reference if we need to roll something at a tournament. Like Cheetah, what type of equipment for various types of bowlers, what kind of surfaces would work, what area of the lane should you play (near the gutter for short, closer to the head for longer, breakpoint distances, etc.), how you would progress through the set, etcetera. I really appreciate all that you guys do for us in the community! Y'all have taught me so much, and I have then passed that on to other bowlers. Thank you!

I've started incorporating your method of how to practice before league games into my routine, and it’s been working really well! My team has been performing much better lately. I’m a two-finger, no-thumb bowler, but I’ve been struggling with consistency. I think my accuracy is suffering because of slight changes in my palm position during the swing. Do you think I should drill a thumb hole to fix this? Honestly, when everything is clicking, I’m throwing games in the 210-240 range. But when it’s hot, I’m sweating, or it’s a tough game, I’ll sometimes drop to 155, and it feels like a grind just to get through. Any advice?

It would be helpful to have a video of what you are thinking and what move you make when you split (Like you did on this video), or leave 4 pin, 7 and or 10, once you have found pocket consistency and have been striking. Another great vid would help me/us to make a move to keep striking and explain your thoughts on whether to just accept the spares, score for that game or what you do to get back to striking, especially with the pressure you bowl under being pros. Maybe to loaded and to involved but any thoughts help confidence that helps execution.

@ ball speed on the monitor can be a little misleading depending on where you throw the ball all. For same speed off your hand a shot in the dry to the right will slow the ball down more than if you keep it in middle in the oil.

Great video and tips with strategies on lining up on a house shot. If you can find a way to teach and show transition and point out why balls over hook past the head pin, or why the ball had no energy going through the pins or why when you belly the ball while moving left on transition it is not reaching your break point, it can open alot of peoples eyes and not blame themselves on their physical game realize it is the way the environment was shaped. Just way too many variables. Thanks for sharing your insights. You guys are improving alot on explaining the game than when you first started.

The other thing is that higher or lower ball speed can be achieved by holding the ball higher or lower in your stance, and starting the pushaway a hair earlier (if held higher) or later (if held lower) so your timing at the line isn't off.
@carneios08Күн бұрын
My problem is that our house shot is pretty low volume and on wood lanes. Even my ~250 rev rate and ~14mph ball speed results in me having to play big angles. For example, my Xponent Pearl, which I use often to try and get the ball to read later, I'm still having to stand on 35 through 20 at the arrows to get it to hit the pocket. Playing straight is only feasible at this center with my plastic ball, which is both miserable for myself and others. The only alternative I have it to increase ball speed and play a weaker ball like my Hustle B-R-Y, but I lose consistency with higher ball speeds, which I don't like either.

I have been having a problem in league lately where during pre-game practice, on fresh, I get setup pretty good, hitting pocket, striking. Then league play begins and the first 1/2 of the first game I continue what I was doing through practice, sometimes having to move maybe 1 or 2 boards left, no big deal. Then all of a sudden, WHAM! .. my ball starts pushing down lane, sometimes washout. Like out of the blue it will start doing this. And I'm not the only one, some of the other players on my team or opposing team experience the same thing. So, I move right a few boards to try to counteract this situation, but I then just struggle to control the pocket. So then I try another ball, usually to a shinier ball to read the friction down lane more again. Sometimes that has worked and I'm back in it, but lately I end up chasing balls until I finally find something to work pretty well and I bowl a pretty good game the last game. Something changed at our bowling center the past couple of months (not just the weather) to cause this issue (have no idea what it is, oil, pattern, something). I have talked to dozens of people in our leagues and they say they have experienced the same type of thing. I am really stuck right now not having a clue as to what I need to do. Is it me? .. is it my ball (I resurface every few weeks with fresh box surface)? .. is it the lanes? .. what the heck is going on and what can I do to get ahead of this problem? .. Does anybody have a clue? .. I sure don't seem to. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. It's really getting frustrating, not just for me, but for several other people I bowl with. Thanks in advance and I hope everyone is getting a great start to their 2025 year!!! ❤❤

You gotta keep your hand to the inside part of the ball and not collapse to the outside right at the release point. Also try and bend your elbow to the inside on your down swing Lots of amateurs have that problem. Obviously even a little bit will affect the ball motion. Yes it’s tough to master that and brads hand isn’t doing anything that crazy regarding excessive movement just a very slight turn at release, etc.

Thanks for the video. I have a lower Rev rate and tend to adjust my speed more than moving left as you referenced at the end of your video. Question: since I am typically not comfortable moving left, does it make sense to move my start point closer or farther from the foul line to get less or more hook? To be clear, I have a 4 step approach with minimal slide and typically stop about a 12" short of the foul line, so fouling is not a concern when moving my start point closer to the foul line. The method you guys use in this video work great with the number of shots taken in practice. However, in leagues that I play in, we only have 10 minutes of practice. I normally get only 3-4 shots and time is up. That’s only 2 shots on each lane. So when the lights come on, we are still going through the process for a few frames sometimes. I know that watching others can help. But most amateur bowlers don’t have a clue regarding making adjustment and trying different things, so their shots normally don’t really help. What would you suggest for getting lined up quickly in this scenario?

As I watch a lot of pro's and bowlers in league who are much better than I, it seems that many of these bowlers tend (for right handers) to throw at the ten pin and see where the ball winds up in regards to the pocket. Then they adjust their feet right if they are not getting to the pocket or left if they are over hooking the pocket. Is this observation true or am I assuming something that they are really not doing? It looks like their first ball, off their hand, is heading right at the ten pin until it hit its break point.

For the straighter angles, on a house shot, after you have tried a stronger ball, wouldn't you try balling down or using a ball with a weaker core/coverstock in that same zone/area? Well I tried it and it kinda threw my timing off a bit... I went from between the dots to the back dots. But it did show promise. Need to try some more.

Can you make a video how to play with reactive balls on top of urethane or after a few games played by urethane?

How do I throw slower? While I know it’s separate my mind links speed with rev rate and therefore it’s difficult for me to slow down.

Any recommendations for ultra low rev (90 rpms) low ball speed (10 mph) Senior bowlers?

QUESTION: Could you have balled down rather than move left early in the first game in order to avoid running out of move room by the third game?
