A lot of people needed to hear this ha. I got alot of discouragement until I did my first gig and then people started to take me seriously. I’m thinking for a video idea you could maybe talk about resonance, and where you should be feeling your voice in certain parts of your range. Thanks as always

Great discussion. It really helps to involve the family somehow. We joined a community christmas musical production this year and ever since it's become somewhat normal to sing around the house. I'm still the weird one, but I'm less timid about it. Having a successful performance to look back on is a big game changer for confidence too! Gotta overcome some of that stigma to get there though.

This is great, "let people around me know that i am training and developing my voice", i think they will have their expectation low and more tolerate during cracks and pitchy. Thx

I don't like singing in front of anyone yet (I'm working on resolving that with a great teacher) but I especially dislike anyone hearing me working on a new song or on a song that's a little out of my reach which I am working towards. There's always someone at home so my car has became my primary practice place as I can go out for a 30 minute drive and sing my head off and nobody can hear me. I live in the middle of nowhere however, which helps. I even have some quiet, isolated spots where I can park up and play my guitar and sing for a bit in the back seat. I don't mind doing water phonation at home to songs or scales as that can be done very quietly without anyone hearing me. And even if they do hear me, its just a vocal exercise anyway and i'm not trying to sing "properly" or convey a story or any emotion. Its the vocal equivalent of doing press-ups at home or something similar so I feel much less vulnerable about it.

Thank you so much for saying all this. I knew that a lot of people have this issue, of course, but it still feels so good to hear someone actually address it openly. I like your tip of practicing small or short exercises throughout the day rather than making an hour-block of time because, so often, I don't have that hour-block of time. Thank you!

Funny enough, I love practicing at the grocery store or on the cardio machines at the gym. I make my volume just a tad lower than my regular speaking voice, and that FORCES me to use good technique to reach higher notes. I can’t use too much force or pressure, which means that I have to keep my voice light and focus on technique. Great practice. Also, I have no feelings of public embarrassment, so that’s a plus

@@danielrybin2006 Yes ! I love this . Totally get where you’re coming from. I used to want everyone to hear me ! But yeah I’ve definitely practiced at super low volume like that, around people. All the time! Love this . I remember singing all my way home down the streets , late at night, when I first moved to this city. I think I wanted them all to open their windows and turn it into a street party. 😂 they didn’t . Not once 😆🤘 but yeah thanks for the comment, really fun hearing that. I’m with you

thanks for this video mate, I will share my little experience with this issue. My mother is the only one living with me, I go to college and when in home I'm always practicing, recording originals, and she's a sunshine my mom would never say anything against me, she loves me singing when I sound good and she encourages me, yet I can't get over that feeling of embarassment, not so because of her but because of the neighbours that are always wandering around their backyard (ofc they have the right to) but they are always looking and I can hear them commenting stuff sometimes, it's hard but I feel i'm navigating it with patience and re assuring myself. again thanks for the vid!

@@efim_061 ah brilliant ! Yeah it’s so easy to say ignore them , but very hard to actually do, it affects what headspace you are in no matter how much you try shit it out . Thanks for the comment enjoyed reading that , good luck

I just had to grit my teeth and get on with it, despite my hubby being able to hear me, it’s so worthwhile. And yes, I have a family who has that toxic mindset, my sister is the worst (I don’t invite her to concerts).

Great video, I too suffer from the disease. I have been practicing to and from work for 6+ years now. I also sing when nobody is home. Still I know I need to get over it. Thanks.

I have a real problem with people describing any ability as 'natural talent'. The truth is these people discovered a passion for something and focussed all of their energy on it. Probably as small children where nothing was expected of them and they would draw, play, sing, whatever just for the love of doing it.

@@kennyholliday7492 Thanks. Yeah it’s definitely a tricky one. It’s not always supposed to sound ‘good’ , especially when you are tryin to fix certain voice issues or inconsistencies. There’s experimentation required. And weird stuff that isn’t singing. In fact , is it better to let people hear all that , so they know , you’re working on it !?

God it’s horrible and no one talks about it. For me it stems from when my parents or siblings would catch me singing into a hairbrush as a youngster. Criiiiinge! Later on when I used to perform, the gig would be worse because I had been too embarrassed to warm up beforehand infront of a couple of strangers in earshot….for a gig infront of a shitload more strangers?! How does that even work? How can your own mind be such a self-destructive bastard? 😧 I mean, vocal warm ups sound so fackin terribly unmusical whoever is doing them so I should probably get over it. But won’t .
