Nice job on the landings. What I found on my Long EZ was practicing slow flight just above the stall buck really helped me to slow down for landing. Also, because the airplane is so slick, try using 90kts on downwind. As you already realize, it is very hard to go down and slow down in the EZ family of airplanes. As you said, the canard is still "flying" well after the landing. My technique is to get the Long EZ slowed down to my final approach speed, and then put the speed brake out when the runway is made. This drops off an additional 5kts. Also, by delaying putting down the speed brake, its one less thing to do on a go around. Have fun.

No, just a private pilots license (in the USA) and it is a wonderful fun machine.

Did you get a lot of hours in a Grumman Yankee as Rutan required in his newsletters back in the 70s when I was building one?
@dougframe745

Hi Doug - does your nosegear have the spring shock-absorber or is it just a tube from the gear leg to the wormgear drive?
@dougframe745
@dougframe745 4 жыл бұрын
My nose gear is a solid tube....no spring.

@@dougframe745 Thanks. I converted mine from the push-pull tube/knob to the worm-gear crank. I kept it as the solid tube as well.

Buying an already built VariEze is one of the most dangerous things you can do. My wife and I bought one in 2004, it is a great airplane and we love it. BUT ... a seller will not be honest about potential problems or build errors. You may need to refurbish neglected aspects. You will need to learn about airframe construction and systems. You will need a Licensed Mechanic (A&P) to inspect and approve your work, because you won't have the Builder's Cert. Join the Canard Owners & Builders Assoc.
