Dan really knows how to reimagine a cute song from a cartoon into a metal masterpiece. Thanks so much for your continued reactions to Dan. I second the motion from another commentator, that Dan's My Heart Will Go On from the Titanic movie is another great example of his ability to completely change a song and yet still keep it faithful to the original in some way. And his cover of Bring Me to Life, the Evanescence hit, is incredible, with him singing both the male and female leads. Looking forward to more.

I love that you're going through his library of songs....there's so much to listen to. Mulan is a young teenage girl in Imperial China when the Huns invaded China. Mulan’s father is elderly and uses a walking stick but, the Emperor called on one man from every family to fight the Huns for their honor and country. The “cross dressing” in this context is that Mulan was a girl. Females were not allowed to fight in war during those times. In order for Mulan to save her father, family, and country from the Huns. The wording was awkward the way it was written but, the other “children” were more along the concept of boys/young men who were naive about war and the challenges they were facing. Shang wanted the whole troop to become “men” who would be able to defend China to their last breath for the honor of their families and country. It’s not about sèxualíty in that context, just that Mulan had to dress as a boy because it was punishable by déath for girls to go to war.

Love Dan's version of this song. He can sing anything. Dan doesn't do covers - he does upgrades. Thanks for reacting. The actual animated film wasn't anything about transgender B.S. Sounds like maybe you're looking at a woke Wikipedia page that's added that crap into it. The animated film is based very, very, very loosely on a Chinese legend about a woman masquerading as a man in order to join an army that was being assembled. It had nothing to do with her believing she was a man / transgenderism. No - it's just that women weren't allowed in the army so she had to masquerade as a man.

Nothing wad, merly a wiman wanting to fight fir her country, disguised as a man because women were nit accepted in the army in this mythological stoy in ancient times. The only reason Mulan was even in the military in the first place was because her elderly father had been called to fight & she snuck off w/o his knowledge to take his place in order to save his life. Women weren't allowed in the military in that era of Chinese history & being discovered would have ended badly for her & dishonored her father/family. Idk why that cross dressing book garbage was even mixed into that write-up. 🙄 Ugh! It's a great movie & Eddie Murphy is hilarious as Moo Shoo. Enjoyed your reaction, nonetheless. 😊

Mulan only went to war because her elderly, wounded, and highly decorated war veteran father was drafted (just as all the men and boys) in the entire country were called to fight the dreaded Huns. She nobly stole her father's old armor and secretly left home to fight in his stead to save his life.
