Hello from Brazil. I am researching to buy a J120 here in Brazil and it is quite difficult to find one with a known maintenance history, so I am researching everything about the maintenance of this car, considering buying one without knowing the history and doing all possible maintenance. For that, your videos are being very useful! I have no words to thank!

Hey Todd, brilliant video dude, you say you're not a mechanic but even a 'real' mechanic would struggle to explain things in great detail like you do. I have a Hilux Surf that's had a rough life and I'm so glad I've found your channel as your vids are just what I need to help me restore my pickup. Keep up the good work :-)

I use a medical syringe with a small black retic tube attached to the end to suck up the remaining oil in the oil filter tray, then release it into my old filter

Hey mate, great video. I use Ryco & have done over the last 40 years, used to use Castrol, but now use Penrite. What I use on the sump plug is a magnetic holder from Supercheap. It has a handle on a flexible wire cable with a magnetic holder on the bolt. Loosen the sump plug, then fit magnetic piece and rotate until out of thread and pull away as oil drops out. Air filter, I use a K&N, makes a difference. Mine is an April, 2004 model still using a lot of original items. What I did do for the first time was remove the mini sump which is easily removable once bash plate has been removed. Once that sump is off it gives access to the engine oil pick up. I have seen pictures of these fully covered in gunk, therefore, starving the engine of oil. After 16 years, I removed mine, expecting the worst & to my surprise, it was 99% clean. I removed it any way & was over the moon how clean the bottom end of my engine was, remembering this is a sub sump, not the complete engine sump. This goes to prove that changing the oil as per Toyota specs using quality oil has rewarded me in bucket loads. I'm an ex mechanic from the old school. My cars have never been to a dealer, never.

Great video. I'm learning a lot from this channel! Just a suggestion, if you ever make another service video, you could show people how to replace the air conditioner filter and how to clean it out. I'm talking about the one behind the glove compartment. From personal experience, I have to clean this out once a year or after a big trip as a lot of just a leaves and other junk find its way into there. It was weird because my car didn't come with the filter at all so I bought a genuine one but something got into the system and made a rattling sound for ages driving me nuts as there was no filter. I ended up using a leaf blower to blow it out as I couldn't get my hand deep enough into the a/c system and take it out and that worked a treat. But it takes like 1-2 minute to take the glove compartment out and swap/clean out the filter so you could really easily show others how to do this on one of your videos and I'm sure it would help a few people. I presume you would know how to do this, but if you don't, it is explained in the user manual.

19:41 Mid October and i'm still not allowed to work (my industry is 100% shut down) or travel more than 5km from my inner city, single bedroom apartment so i'd say yup, i've well and truly been asked to do something crazy. Think i'm complaining too much? Come and do 7 months in Melbourne first them we'll check that positive WA attitude of yours! ;) Apart from that I just found your channel today and am loving your vids. If I can offer a pointer please try to level your dialogue and music a bit closer as your talking is really quiet and your music really loud. As a rule (audio broadcast standards) music is actually set at a lower level than dialogue. It's common from people to think the opposite and crank the tunes, but all this does is blow your ears out and have to lower the volume especially when playing through a TV/speakers. Anyway keep you the great work - cheers!

Cheers thanks Todd, yeah i have seen his video and he did’nt actually do it, he just show us where it is and if its not malfunctioning dont change it because its a little tight where the positions of it. But if youre replacing your alternator you might as well do the thermostat because its just behind.👍

Hi, nice video, although my prado is the V6 petrol I believe the process will be the same except the appropriate oil, filter etc. also where did you get your awesome headlights from?
@offroadcrusader
@offroadcrusader 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, really appreciate it. Yeah same sort of process, but different filters and oil. You'll be all over it in no time haha! The headlights I purchased from PS4x4 on ebay. Search for 'Prado 120 Headlight Halo' and they should come up. I did a long term review of the lights too if that interests you, its on the channel.
