I got my points calculation wrong at the end: at 275pt you could instead get a Manticore (180pt), Scount Sentinel (60pt) and a Cyclop Demo vehicle (25pt) = 265pt

I just took one to an RT yesterday, it did very well it did consistent damage against my eldar opponents tanks and was very essential in destroying greater daemons. I would definitely consider bringing one to another tournament

Very tough to evaluate. My first thought was: Why does this thing need to be so tanky when it just stands in your backline? Its really unnecessary, except if you get hit by arty yourself. So in a way you are paying for toughness you dont need. So maybe it could be useful to push this into the midfield and bait some enemy shots and take some heat from your battletank? This would be even better, if this thing wouldnt ignore the indirect penalty itself already. So having it in the back seems a bit wasted, but pushing it forward also doesnt really acomplish that much for its firepower. Anti Vehicle 4+ is actually really interesting, because even the Rogal Dorn can struggle against anything with high toughness, especially above 9. But then again, 2 AP is not that hot against the targets we intend to shoot. Anything that is so tough has a 2+ Save. With cover they will save on a 3+. So hitting on 2+, wounding on 4+ and saving on 3+. So round about 25% of shots from the initial D6+1 should go through roughly. Which should be between 0 and 1 succesful wound. I hope that math checks out. So for 275 points that doesnt look that hot in my opinion. The firestorm profile looks pretty juicy though. Juicy enough for the cost? I have no idea. Its probably one of those things where you need to play it a couple of times to evaluate it properly. Super cool model though

Great thoughts here Henrik. I think the reality is that 275 is overcosted for what it does. You could take it but aslong as the rest of your list is 'fully optimised' when playing competitively. Your point around its high survivability in the backfield is an important consideration

Yeah agreed, if just a little bit cheaper it would be fine, say 250pt. That 25pt does push it over unfortunately....atleast it looks cool!

For me, the main problen about firestorm rokets, is that it kinda designed to deal with marines. But the issue is, that they have easily accesable UNBREAKABLE LINES strategem, that only costs 1CP and effectivly halves the amount of damage that the unit does. Taking into the account, that Praetor is a big boy and in most of cases it a center piece, SM playes will always hold 1CP to substantially decrease Praetor's potentian. If we're talking about CSM, they'll just use DARK OBSCURATION with NURGLE mark. That way, you'll never be able to target what you want, and only what they let you to shoot at. Foehammer has its niche uses but it wouldn't be able to deal substantial amount of damage to heavily armored targets because of lack of number of shots, AP and damage. I'm not even talking, how many ways some fractions can increase survivability of important units with abilities, strategems, invults, fnp and other stuff. At the end Praetor feels like a not really jack of all traits, master of none. Too bad it didnt stop me from buyng it)

Alot of truths here. I would debate that the counter strategum applies to any of our indirect pieces. However given this model costs 275pt, using these strategums against the Praetor means your opponent gets more value out of its use. I think the main point is that 275pt is simple too expensive
