It is possible that Praetorius played precisely this music on this very organ some 400 years ago! And it sounded like this!!

To sit and listen to such old and forgotten by many beautiful music smoking my pipe with good quality tobacco is great. I am glad people like Praetorius existed. I am also thankful to Lord Cavendish for his hand in making pipe smoking so much smoother.

I like the 'light' sonority of this organ. It doesn't overwhelm the melody. Thanks for posting.

I know very well the organ Antegnati 1581 in the S. Giuseppe church in Brescia city. in 1955 was made in favour of this organ the first philological restoration of an organ in Italy. All material was preserved, even all the mechanical, and were added only a few scattered flutes. If you come to Brescia I will make you enter into the organ! you will see for yourself that all the italian Ripieno 16 and the human voice 16 are entirely original.

"Bransle de Villages" is a surprising piece. Interesting to see a piece this early picking out an impression of a rustic style tune. I always thought these stylized renditions of folk-inspired melodies were more confined to the 19th and 20th century with the rise of romanticism and musical nationalism. This is the sort of thing an amateur musicologist like myself loves to stumble on!

As an amateur fiddler, I can tell you that there was cross-class cultural appropriation of fiddle music - opera tunes and such would become folk songs and folk songs adopted into orchestral music, opera and military marches

Frederick Barbarossa And I was familiar with that in the 18th and 19th centuries for sure! A specific example being "Old Towler," a folk tune that was adopted as a regimental march by several British regiments. But an early example like this is still fascinating. Then again, I guess going back as far as the 14th century you have songs in Middle English written in the style of courtly music, so it makes sense that there'd be something in between.

De tous temps, il y eut perméabilité entre la musique populaire, celle du petit peuple des campagnes surtout et la musique "savante". Tous les grands compositeurs ont trouvé leur inspiration dans les musiques villageoises.

This is the oldest functioning organ in the world, and as I understand it, the only existing complete organ built by Esaias Compenius. How many wooden pipes does it have?

ca. 3:55 WHAT organ stop is that. It sounds like a cornetto ... I mean a real cornetto. On the registration list, I see: "Gems Horn" and "NachtHorn" but I've never heard an organ stop resemble an instrument as much as this one!

I find it unfair to consider an ancient organ because it contains only a negligible amount of original pipes
@richardholmquist7316
@richardholmquist7316 4 жыл бұрын
This organ (Fredericksborg, by Compenius) DOES have all its original pipes and is the oldest organ in the world of which this is definitely true. The reason for this is that it has been owned by the kings of Denmark continuously since 1615. Royal possessions tend to be well cared for. There are a few older organs that have a good number of original pipes, although it's hard to say what's original and what's been added over the years. Ostönnen, Germany and Sion, Switzerland are about the oldest, both from around 1430.
