How lovely to learn that an Israeli paid tribute in song to Alexander Dubchek and his followers who tried to reform the society, economics and political life of Czechoslovakia. Like the East German revolt of 1953 and the Hungarian revolution of 1956 against communism, the events of 1968 laid the basis for the later toppling of communism throughout Eastern Europe once Gorbachev decided to no longer use force to shore up the communist regimes there. Prague is indeed one of the prettiest cities that I have ever seen with extremely nice people and well worth a visit. It should, also, be noted that the Von Habsburgs who ruled Austria-Hungary were judeophiles and very pro-Jewish. So, this support for Judaism and its peoples predates the establishment of the successor states of the empire. In fact, it's one of the reasons why many top Nazis were not particularly fond of the Von Habsburg dynasty.

Unfortunately, it should be noted how history has shown that Dubček was not a good politician. His efforts at liberalization were naïve and unrealistic from the start. Socialism was unreformable from the beginning.

I'm so glad that you are going back to (also) making Normal Israel videos. There is so much for people to see about Israel that doesn't involve war. Memshala and Bitachon are two words I remember after travelling around Israel for 2 months in 1984/1985. You hear (heard?) these words so many times on the radio in the buses and taxis that eventually you knew their meaning. Not sure what you mean about being a Professional in relation to women's beauty, but I agree, the Slavic nations and their surrounding countries have the most beautiful and sometimes the most kind women around. I know because I have been married to one since 1998. Keep the videos coming. We appreciate you and we love you.

Masaryk was the first head of state to officially visit the Yishuv in 1927. His guide was Max Brod, who later rescued and popularized Kafka's works. When Communism fell, one of the first steps of the democratic government in the international arena was reestablishing the ties with Israel - a step that was considered as "a display of independence from Soviet Union". I highlytecommend Martin Wein's book: "A Slavic Jerusalem", which analyzes the many cultural connections between Czechs and Israelis.

Czechia, Israel, and music, without mentioning Smetana? His Vlatava theme from Ma Vlask (songs of my country) was (consciously) the base of Hatikva. He said the he did not write it but just orchestrated it. It was brought to Praha by Mozart, from Venice, but the origin was a Sephardic prayer welcoming the dew (end of the rains). In the mid-30s the Brits banned the Hatikva from being played on the Radio. (It upset the Arabs), So instead the Zionist Radio signed off with the Vlatava (die Moldau in German.) Everyone knew, but the Brits couldn't forbid them from playing classical music. (actually they probably could have. The British authorities never gave a shit about legality in their colonies. And that in itself is an example. Palestine and Iraq were not colonies, but Mandates, requiring a different legal strucute. But since Whitehall didn't have a dept of Mandates, both were managed by the Secretary of the Colonies, and were treated as such). BTW T.G. Masaryk loved Tel Aviv. He visited twice (1923 and 1927). In 1927 he spend a month or more mostly in Tel Aviv. He noted that it was the opposite of Praha, which was the "oldest' city (the average buildings are the oldest, since it was never destroyed), At the time most most buildings (including the then ultra modern Bahuas construction) was less than 10 years old.

I send all my love to my beloved Israel from the Czech Republic. I was lucky enough to visit this place twice and travel from Eilat to Safed and I still long to return. Take care, my friends, our state is firmly on your side.

Hello from Prague. Israel is a country that I have visited with my wife probably more times than any other country. And I hope to see Israel many more times in the future. The last time I was in Israel was three weeks ago at the beer festival in HaTachana park, I have a lot of friends there from Haifa to Bersheva and if I had to describe my relationship with Israel, it is love. I have to say that wherever in Israel I mention that I am from Prague, from the Czech Republic, everyone is nice, they often mention not only Masaryk (I think that the youth in Israel know Masaryk better than the youth in the Czech Republic) but also the support of Israel at this time and the fact that we are probably the safest country in Europe for Israelis.

I love this song, and Arik Einstein has always been my favorite Israeli artist. And watching this video and listening to the song in my apartment in Prague is more than a bit surreal :) I will say this - Prague (and the Czech Repiblic generally) is one of the only places in Europe (if not actually the only one) where Jews are not afraid. No one hides their Kippa, I feel perfectly safe speaking hebrew in the street (something I cannot do in the UK, Germany or France, for example), and you feel perfectly welcome, both as an Israeli and as a Jew. And the comment about the Czech women? He's 100% Correct ;)

I spent Dec 64 and Jan 65 in Israel on Machon Hachoref. It truly had the most amazing spirit back then. Now in line with all developed countries its palpably in secular decline.
