Weigh your fish with a ruler
As anglers, we spend a lot of money on fishing trips to catch the fish of a lifetime. Releasing big fish gives everyone a chance to do the same. When you catch a big fish, weigh it by measuring the length and the girth with a measuring tape and convert those numbers to an approximate weigh using a fish weight calculator online. The days of hanging a fish off of a hook to weigh it on a scale should be a thing of the past. That tactic threatens to injure a fish serious enough that it might not to survive for the next angler pursuing their trophy of a lifetime.
