Lovely video. I know monarchs are very attracted to Butterfly bush which is invasive and not to be planted. It also deters them away from their host plant. My neighbour has a huge butterfly bush and much of her lawn has common milkweed. We haven’t seen any of the monarch eggs nor many adults.

This was so informative! I plan to plant zinnias and milkweed this spring to help the monarchs along on their journey now.

History of our knowledge of Monarch butterflies, their migrations, and their evolution from eggs through caterpillars to chrysalis and finally butterflies. Then - what to plant to feed our visiting butterflies and their progeny. Fascinating!

It was on January 2nd 1975 when we, my husband Ken Brugger and I, Catalina, called Fred Urquhart to tell him we found the first monarch butterfly overwintering colony. In February 1976 we took Fred Urquhart and his wife Norah to the second colony we discovered...Thank you so much for your work.

Have tried many times but they eat the milkweed so fast it's impossible to support the caterpillars. Planted a bunch of swamp milkweed seeds by my pond, so I hope they grow and can grow before being eaten to the ground. I do have zinnias. They are so easy to grow.
