I'm a simple man. I see a SkyDrama video, and I sit back knowing it's going to be one of the most captivating and well thought videos of the year. Absolutely superb job getting incredible footage of some of the more incredible tornadoes I've seen in years. I have spent an embarrassing amount of hours watching storm chases and tornadoes and weather, and you still manage to blow me away with the quality, the humility and the control you have over what can only be described as a chaotic situation. There's never a measure of panic, only careful consideration, respect to the environment and the people involved, along with incredible footage. Not that I needed more reason, but am given more today with why you are one of my favorite chasers and one of the most respected people in the entire weather community. Thank you for all that you do and all that you've done to make the world and the weather community a better place.

You guys got some absolutely incredible footage, without screaming and "whooping". I really appreciate that you respect the storms and don't act like "yahoos" that need to punch the core in order to show the story. The **only** thing I would ask is that you respect people's private property as much as you do the storms. The Minden footage was fantastic, but I really hope you had that farmer's permission to be on his property. Here in Oklahoma, we have a huge problem with "storm chasers" that have no problem driving right up on people's private property and tearing it up in the rain and mud. It usually starts out as just one person doing it, then others follow. Anyway, with that said, thank you so much for this upload. Y'all had a crazy day and I really respect your professionalism. This was a tough chase as it was my home. Watching your footage of the wall cloud rotating over downtown Lincoln is spine tingling. Also the "people in Waverly are acting strange" - same while we were on the interstate... some people on interstate are acting strange. Then scan the horizon and boom on our right. Similar to you guys... wait it's behind you? ours was wait, it's to our right? we were looking straight ahead as that was where the rain was wrapping around. Since we were behind the storm, we stopped at Waterloo, NE as damage path for Elkhorn tornado started there and no way through the road at the point. honestly i had enough and was ready to go home. So great to see the view that we probably would have had, if we hadn't gone for the storm early. But that's what we do in our chasing, we want to be there for the early part of the storm too... look forward to watching second half of this later as i know little of what the iowa storms/tornadoes looked like and appreciate your more meteorological approach to storm chasing

I was flying home emergency-style as as we were over NE/Iowa (after my Denver layover) I saw the line of supercells. Andrew, did that tornado hit those grain elevators at about 13 minutes? When I was a boy in Illinois, a tornado warning went off while we were in chruch and we all ran across the street to two large elevators, one which was empty. The church was vaporized by an EF3, but those elevators only got surface damage to the exterior. It was a strange experience beause of the echos within that space and the sound of the storm was amplified within. Is it your experience that empty grain elevators are a good shelter in a tornado? That elevator saved over 40 lives.

As a person who has a late April birthday I have also been fascinated by the midwest weather. The first April tornado that captured my attention was the tornado that hit Xenia, Ohio on April 3, 1974. The newspaper coverage and a short blurb on the TV was all I learned about that event in my hometown on the South Shore of Boston. It was not until 1981 that I visited Xenia. The local library offered a much more detailed look at that devastating event. What interested me was how the way we respond to such weather events has changed thanks to what Dr. Ted Fujita witnessed after Xenia. It's my hope that more people will heed the warnings that are based on science and trained spotters. Each time you go off on a chase each is different. As you said about Vlog 51, who knew you would be "filming the most spectacular atmospheric event of my life." Thank you Andrew for all the time and energy you put into your productions.

Question from The Netherlands. Why are those sirens always so late.?? 🤔 I noticed in a lot of Tornado video's. People have sometimes only a minute to react.
@AndrewPritchard7 ай бұрын
So, to be fair in some cases towns sound their sirens multiple times, so what you heard in the video may not have been the first time, but second or third, telling people to stay sheltered. In other cases it is true that these tornadoes formed very fast, and there may have been some delay in getting sirens activated. Towns across the Midwest US have different policies on when they sound the sirens so I can’t speak for each case.

This was a horrific and devastating tornado. So many in this breakout was, the whole dang string.. summer! This is an amazing video. Beautifully filmed. You not only showed it up close, and the terrible damage it was doing, but backed out to show the beauty of the storm. It’s something how so incredibly beautiful, can be so devastating and deadly at the same time. Thankyou for this. What a birthday!!! This is the best film of this tornado, as you filmed all of it. You missed the beginning a bit, but wow! The rest is amazing!!! I was watching this unfold of the Weather Channel, and on Ryan Hall. I was on my knees praying for all that was in the line of these storms.I understand what they were going through, as I have been through 3 strong ones, an F4, when I was a young girl, and in 2016, in the winter and at night, not one, but two hit my neighborhood and my home and farm. I thank God those I love survived, even as their house was ripped to pieces, and neighbors down the road was killed. I live on a farm, and none of our farm animals or my babies( a 100 pound white Akita , and a blue healer, and my kitties were not gained, even though my home had very significant damage and our barn and all our buildings were completely destroyed. The farm across the river from us lost a lot of their cows, and some lost their sweet house pets. So, even though I did lose a lot of stuff, I know I am richly blessed. Thousands have lost everything, and sone loved ones and friends. So many that watch these videos, and I certainly one on them, doesn’t understand the horrific impact that’s last not just days, weeks, months, but last for years. My life was drastically changed after 2016, and my experience does not even remotely compare to so many. I am thrilled watching ever video that comes out, oh yes I am!! But at the same time, my heart is breaking, and I’m cry so hard for all affected. Again, Thankyou for these amazing videos, but people, don’t just look and be thrilled, do everything you can to help! Pray, yes, but then give give give to help those who have nothing left. God bless you, and keep on filming, but please please stay safe♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏

48:58- My god man, you can see like 4-5 very defined funnel clouds rotating around like a central void- that is an absolute monster tornado. That thing is scouring the ground I bet close to a foot deep at times. I hated to see it hit a structure of some kind- I sincerely hope that wasn't someone's home and that no one was in it. That's the type of tornado that kills ppl who- like you said, do the "right" things. They follow all the right advice and take precautions- and it gets them anyway. That same thing happened in both the F5s I was in- one was when I was a baby, so I don't remember it- but apparently it tore slabs off shelters and pulled ppl out. Destroyed homes and took ppl out of their basements, etc. The second one was in 2011- Hackleburg Alabama- and it did the same thing- not to me, luckily. I wasn't actually in it- I was right behind it though- saw what it did and tried to help clean up. It was horrible- lots of dead ppl. Thank you for taking it seriously and thinking about the ppl affected- makes a difference.

I just asked if that’s what I saw because I couldn’t believe my eyes.
@stoneysdead6896 ай бұрын
@@Variant1on1 Yeah- that's what we saw- apparently, it's not that uncommon to have multi vortex tornadoes- but it's rare that you can see them this clearly or for them to be rotating so evenly spaced around such a clearly defined void in the center.

Question: when u have one storm cloud that has a tornado touchdown but then goes away... if that same cloud has another form minutes later is that considered 1 or 2 tornadoes? Also if tornadoes form but don't touchdown is that counted as one? Same with one tornado with multiple vortices?

Thank you for what you do it helps keep folks safe we need a good chaser around the Leavenworth Kansas area it would bring me comfort and make me feel safe I live in northeast Kansas and too many tornadoes happen here and It would provide me comfort if someone would chase her for a visual so I know what to expect when it's happening we almost got hit by a tornado those four days of severe weather outbreak and the last day is when we almost got hit i almost had a stroke my heart was racing and pounding so fast I was so scared for my life my safety and well being. No one sticks around to chase here cause they wanna be with the other chasers but we do get bad weather here worth a chaser being here

45:18 the nearby car of the other storm chasers is covered in something odd looking, is it intended to protect the windshield and other glass from hailstones?
@AndrewPritchard7 ай бұрын
That is exactly right! That's storm chaser Dan Robinson from the St. Louis area - he, and a handful of other storm chasers have fashioned metal caging to protect windshields/side windows/sunroofs from shattering in large hail.

I thought so!! When I saw your (jaw-dropping) video from in and north of Elkhorn I figured you had to have driven right by us and went back and thought that had to be you guys proceeding through my video. I heard a car honk near the same time and thought maybe you'd seen us, but we were in Colin's new car that I don't think anyone would've recognized as us that day. We just got so uncomfortable after that quick view of the wedge in that valley and thought it had a much harder eastward component. When we stopped I honestly thought we were going to be uncomfortably close to it taking out the homes right there or at the very least we'd be in RFD hell like the Harlan tor had on it's south end. Glad for Elkhorn that it had that northerly track, and glad you all went ahead to get the shot! Sorry for the long response, been meaning to chat with you about that Elkhorn moment!
@AdamLucio4 ай бұрын
@@AndrewPritchard Haha no worries. It was strangely calm as we approached the tornado, I kept waiting for the 100mph RFD and was leery of those giant electrical poles, but it was shockingly still. We mustve been in that moat of calm air, or all the energy was just focused in the (multi) vortex. Im about to start working on my long form video!
