We used to sing this at school in 1956 in the UK. It is hugely edifying in old age to see that this standard of worship is unchanged ....... as is the Lord God Himself.

I just love to hear these beautiful hymns. They remind me of the days when churches were full with people here in England praising God and his Holy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Today it is so sad to see the state of this country that once sent out missionaries throughout the globe, to preach the message of Jesus Christ and many people turned to serve our Lord. Now today, this country has backslided a way from God. This has led to a new religion of hate, arising in this country. If we are not careful will lead to the distraction of a country, once known for democracy and for worshipping the living God, Jehovah. The moments in which these magnificent hymns are sung are probably the most moving there can be in Westminster Abbey, and definitely, what sustains the singing of the entire congregation is the organ, always present in all services.

I came to listen as all day today I thought about my great-grand mother who left us 23 years ago. She would have been 113 this October. I have been living in Italy for 50 + years. While watching a dubbed film on Tv this hymn came on screen and I remembered it immediately and had a sing. I remembered singing it as a child😄. It just goes to show, doesn’t it!

Kids can be moulded. There is a way to administer discipline without use of harsh words. Many fail to do so. England had a once dark and ugly history where kids live under harsh conditions during the Industrial period and were subjected to corporal punishment by owners of workhouses if they misbehave. English society has learned from its mistakes and has found ways to guide children in the right path without use of harsh tones. Rules of the Royal Family is very very strict and conservative. But as far as concerned, parents never use harsh tones towards their kids, well at least in public.

Beautiful hymn, but do you notice? The cross has been removed from the altar and the beautiful reredos, covered with carved Christian imagery, has been covered with curtains. Why? So as to not "offend" non-Christians in attendance? That this would happen in Westminster Abbey of all places, a Christian place of worship for almost 800 years, is absurd and wrong. The Church of England has gone completely off the rails.
