Thanks very much for this - super useful, not least because the day before I saw this I found and bought an MTL-3! Thanks for the tip on the 1.35V reducer - I don't like Wein cells so I've been stopping down on my OM-1 and I forget sometimes, so I just ordered an adapter for myself to try out... The BMS not having M42 is a deal breaker for me as I like to share lenses with my mirrorless digital and I have the M42 adapter already.

I love the m42 mount Prakticas and have several, including a NIB MTL3 I found on Ebay. A black LTL with a Carl Zeiss Zebra Jena Pancolor 50/1.8 lens has been my carry camera for many years, an awesome combination. The metal shutter is noisy, but reliable. Substitutes for the mercury battery are available as are the voltage adapter, but I prefer using a hand held meter. Excellent review of a much under appreciated camera!

I used to be a camera repair technician. The top and bottom of the MTL series cameras is chrome plated plastic, the same applies to the Olympus OM10 , Canon AE1, Pentax ME Super and so on.

Just bought an MTL 3 off eBay there, my first manual film camera. Good to hear a good (I’m assuming) County Antrim man assure me I made the right choice.

Shutter sync speed on MTL series is actually 1/125 sec not 1/60 as I said in the video. Apologies for the error.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the two faulty lenses (use a cotton bud dipped in lighter fluid, or isopropyl alcohol). Nine times out of ten that's the problem.
