Hi! I think the technique you're referring to is singing and playing, where the flautist combines normal playing technique with literally singing into the instrument - it's an amazing effect. You can sing and play the same notes (homophonically, as I used it here) or different notes (polyphonically). Here's a video demonstration: www.flutecolors.com/techniques/sing-play/ Hope that helps!
