Going through some negative comments - may be an effect of bull market 😂 We need to keep two things on mind. -- If I have 1 lakh rupees, and invest 5000 on some penny stocks.. it gives 100% return. My total capital grows by 10%. - I dont think most of us can invest more than 5% of total net worth in penny stocks. - you can easily put 60% of your net worth in large cap Index or in a portfolio of 15 good stocks. Even if that gives you 30% return, that adds more value to your portfolio, also you get mental stability.

If i invest in one active mutual fund for 20yrs. E.g. momentum fund, what are the points suppose to consider of trust for 20yrs. Or what are the indicators that this mf is not going as per its concept so we can withdraw from it

Give the fund at least 1 year time. After that, compare it with its bench index. You can get that data in any fund research site, MoneyControl, ValueResearch etc. If the fund doesn't give more returns than the index, then there's no point staying in it. But before you take out your money, try to know why the fund is doing poorly. If it is a temporary problem, the issue might get resolved soon. But if it is something related to internal issues, like change of manager, frauds, front running etc, then it is best to change the fund. You can opt for another active fund or just chose that index instead. Don't mind. You have 20yrs in your hand. Wasting only 1 year will not have much effect, if you can take the right decision quickly. The remaining 19 years will make up for that 1 year loss.

What I personally do, If I am investing 1000 rs in any active fund I keep at least 100 rs in index, that I can track easily the comparison. I think, we need to give at least 3 years of time frame to a fund manager to outperform the index. If it is not outperforming I will get out of it. Why 3 years. I think it's a decent time. Because if we choose a fund in its high growth time, they might underperform for a short term basis. (Quant) Sometimes funds underperform to low your Beta (volatility), still gives a good return.. I am ready to keep on with that fund for a longer time. (PPFas flexi cap). When are you choosing a fund, you are showing your trust to the fund manager. Listen to his interviews , try to understand his thesis. Market performance and expectations. If fund managers gets changed, you can get out of it I think. If they hike expense ratio rapidly, can get out of it ( may be I will do with my HDFC banking fund and will shift to index) For sectoral funds, you need to be cautious enough when greed starts. Obviously you can be wrong I exited pharma 2 months ago 😅
